Me neither- I went down a band due to modifications then got 25% off0
-
How do you get 100% off???
I live on my own and they came round to look at the property..as it has a wet room the council tax band got moved one band down.
This is the nirm as I understand it, if you are disabled and property has been adapted in any way that fits in with their requirements then after home visit you get band changed, and then like anybody else, as a single person you can get 25% discount.
Never heard of 100% off unless terminal!
People who are severely mentally impaired can be exempt from council tax. I can't post links on my Kindle, but it's on the .gov website.
The NHS website has further details. Severe mental impairment can include Alzheimer's, severe learning difficulties or in some cases, a stroke.0 -
Exbury gardens in the New Forest offers free carer with disabled person. Just take proof of your DLA or PIP. Mottisfont in Romsey offers the same as part of the National Trust. You can ask for their 'admit one card' to be sent to you and then you don't need to take your proof letter.0

You can apply for a Wightlink disabled badge by writing to the following address.
Wightlink Ferries
Call Centre
Gunwharf Road
Portsmouth
PO1 5BB
Please include proof of benefits, a passport size photo and covering letter.
Once you have the disabled ID card, you will get a discount for your fare and, your carer would go free as your companion. Please note, you would need to book at least 48 hours in advance when booking with your carer.0 -
Things I have applied for and received so far:Disabled persons railcard using £10 tesco voucher.
Travel card from Wightlink ferries for discount and free carer.
Admit one card from National trust to admit free carer/companion.
Free carer/companion to Exbury gardens.
Free carer/companion to Titanic museum in Southampton.
CEA card for cinema for free companion entry.
Contacted the local council about council tax but here it is means tested so not available.
I think it shows we just have to be prepared to ask.0 -
% discount on council tax is directly related to 'means testing', example 3 identical properties inhabited by 3 same age single individuals would depend on the income of the individuals in the property. 1 might get 30%, 2 might get 75% and 3 might get 100%.
A 'passport' for the highest discount council tax is receipt of one or both elements of Pension Credit. Best of luck.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. I live in basingstoke. My partner is disabled and has the yellow card. I've been trying to figure out other than the cinema what we can do together with it. We both want to do swimming but unsure where to go that does the discount.
Not being scroungers or anything just not much money coming in0 -

Ring your local leisure centre. Most have a discount scheme in place for disabled people, and also those on low incomes. This is done by the local authority, so it varies massively by where you live.
http://www.basingstokeleisure.com/aquadrome/pricelist states that "A person with a disability is entitled to free swimming as is their carer, a membership card will be provided." - you must show one of the forms of ID for the disabled person when you go, and will be issued a membership card.
Just give them a ring, and they will tell you if your partner qualifies, and then you can both go free!0 -
Untilthe axing, two year ago, our council had a specially equipped swimming pool ,just for disabled people. It's now lying empty.0

I really hate the name of this thread. It makes it sound like there is some kind of perks to be disabled. It also re-enforces the idea that all you need to do is claim to have a bad back and you can live the life of riley. Given the choice between being able to cross Severn Bridge for free and having a normal life, I know which I'd choose.0
