There is no such thing as being registered as disabled.
You are covered under the DDA for any long term Chronic condition.
Yes there is such a thing as being registered disabled, I know as I have a daughter who is registered, she has a 'yellow' card stating her nature of disability, issued from Social Services. This is the card I show to receive discounts on entry fees.

Can anyone tell me HOW to register disabled, I have rang our local council and they didnt seem to know...???

I spoke to social services to get my son on the local authorities disablity register. He has autism.
Being on the registar means that the government sees a more realistic number of how many disabled people are in the area so that they know where needs higher funds

For sensory impairment (and possibly learning difficulties?) but there isn't one for other disabilities.

  • Hi here's what I get free or free for my carer -

    1. We are season ticket holders for Manchester City and my carer goes free, my ticket is reduced.
    2. CEA Card - admits carer free but costs £5 I think. Valid for 3 years.
    3. Carers ticket at the Theatre - either free or greatly reduced. Depends what you want to see.
    4. Free Parking - blue badge scheme.
    5. Free Bus Pass - free travel between 9.30am and 11pm Mon-Fri no restrictions on Sat-Sun.
    6. Free Carer Admittance from National Trust and English Heritage.
    7. Free or reduced swimming sessions
There are a few more that I can't remember. Most are available on receipt of DLA Higher rate mobility.
Never be afraid to ask for reduction if you are disabled. You'll be amazed how many times they say yes.

I don't know who has been giving this information out but I have been twice to legoland and paid for DH and daughter with Tesco vouchers and still got in free one carer. Also did this at Cadbury world and only daughter and I went! There seems to be two different policies.

My son is in receipt of DLA and I also receive Carers Allowance for him. We have had a number of free or 'cheap' days out. We now take the letter from his doctor stating that he doesn't understand the concept of queuing and he lacks social skills, as well as the letters stating that we get DLA and Carers Allowance, as some places have wanted to see all 3 letters before allowing a carer to enter for free or issuing exit passes.

Just to let some of you know, as most of you know, most places do let in a free carer with a disabled person BUT sometimes you have to pay for them in full - ie cash or card and NOT with Tesco's clubcard vouchers.

We've been refused a free carer pass from Merlin when using Tesco clubcard vouchers, as they say that their heavily discounted the pass in the first place. I told them that the were discriminating against disabled people, but they stuck to the guns, which meant I had to use Tesco clubcard vouchers for me too! Also Cadbury's World, you have to pay cash for the disabled person to get the carer in free.

Facebook has a very good group, full of loads of discounts available.

"Children DLA days out Discounts tips and advice Disability Living Allowance"

I have manage to access lots of things at discounted prices for my children.
  • I have just discovered your website and am amazed at what I've learned already, thank you to all concerned. Now I have a question, I have been told by my local council, Kirklees in West Yorkshire, that the willow trees in my garden, which overhang the public highway, need lopping back. As a disabled pensioner I cannot do the job myself, I certainly can't afford tree surgeon prices, and the council won't help either. As anyone any suggestions as to whom I could contact for the job doing at a reasonable rate, or better still FREE! I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you in anticipation.

In coventry there is a scheme called Leisure plus one http://www.coventry.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/leisure-and-culture/passport-to-leisure-and-learning/;jsessionid=b8n2V3PibeC9 (Right down the bottom of the page)

It's free if you've got a PTLL (which you can have if you get DLA or another benefit)

It gives Carers free entry to the Skydome ice rink, Warwick arts centre, sports centres and Lunt Roman Fort with a disabled person.

I've had no problem at all from Legoland using Tesco clubcard vouchers for either Day entry or Legoland Annual Pass and obtaining a free carer. But I was told it's different if you want a Merlin Annual Pass. They won't allow a free carer pass if you insist on using Tesco clubcard vouchers.

Also with regards to Cadbury's World (and probably many other attractions), it must depend on who serves you. We were told that if we used Tesco vouchers for 'paying' then we would have to 'pay' for everyone, but if we paid cash for my son we would be entitled to a free carer.
