AFAIK you cannot get mobility allowance for any child under 3 because the thinking is that as far as mobility is concerned they are the same as any child of that age, no matter what their disability is - ie no baby can walk/go out alone etc.
  • For those in (or visiting) the South West, Paignton Zoo offers discounted entry, and Newquey Zoo, Plymouth Aquarium & the Eden Project all do free entry for a carer. Also, I ordered Tempur pillows a year or so back, and happened to mention that my wife is deaf...if ordered in her name, as a disabled person, instead, no VAT to pay :) Nowadays, we always ask if there is an offer for those with a disability.

Gwynedd & Anglesey do free buspasses for disabled people. My husband got one with a letter from the doctor confirming he would not be allowed to drive under the RTA 1988 (I think this applies all over Wales). It does show up as him being a pensioner now under the new card readers :rotfl:

Now for the DlA application to fill in :(

Black Country Museum and Dudley Zoo do free entry for carers and with the Black Country Musuem if you say 'yes' to Gift Aid on your ticket you can go free for a year and pay just the once.

Cadbury World also do free entry for carers - you need to call them and usually book in advance. www.cadburyworld.co.uk

The Rep Theatre in Birmingham does concession tickets and free tickets for carers (my husband and I saw Wayne Sleep naked in cabaret for about £15 for us both - still in shock!!:rotfl:) You register online with their access register http://www.birmingham-rep.co.uk/visit/access/access-register/ . They are really good and remember things like seat preferences when you ring up to book.

Birmingham Hippodrome also do free carer tickets or discounted tickets if you wish to go on your own.

Warwick Castle do concession tickets too - half-price for the disabled person and carer - even cheaper booked in advance online - and they include entry to the Castle Dungeon which is usually another £6/£7

There are loads more I know, but its late and my mind is addled:rotfl: If I remember them I'll add them. My hubby and I have saved a fortune since we realised that in most places we could both go for the price of one. My bus pass and railcard have been adequate proof so far - on the occassions we are asked for it.

re the dartford tunnel u have to be claiming high rate disability and therefore have a disabled free tax disc to get thru the tunnel free, just a blue badge is not sufficient i am afraid

we are off to goodwood today and they have given us a free carers ticket for the event we are going so i would assume the same would apply to any goodwood event
When you know better you do better

Or receive War Pensioners Mobility Supplement which also entitles one to the free Disabled Tax Disc.

Incidentally, although not mentioned on the Motability website, for anyone who receives War Pensioners Mobility Supplement and needs an automatic car due to their disability, there is a non means tested grant automatically available from the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency of upto £660.00 in order to help bring the Motability Advanced Payment price down to the equivalent manual gearbox car. If the Advance Payment price difference between the automatic and manual cars is less than £660.00 then the grant is to the value of the difference, or if over £660.00 then one pays the difference over and above the grant amount.

There are also a lot of other non means tested grants available for other adaptations which normallly cover the full cost of the adaptation. Details obtainable from either the Motability dealer or the SPVA on 0800 169 2277.

According to the website the disabled persons railcard is only £18 per year, but it's definitely worth checking which one ends up saving the most money.

Yes sorry. I think I got mixed up there. The discount on the tickets that you buy using the disabled railcard is the same as the family discount, not the railcard purchase price itself. The family card merely allows more people to travel together.
