If interested, please see this post of mine on a similar thread with screenshots to avoid Ryanair doing the currency exchange. You have to pay a lot of attention to do it right IMHO:

Thanks for this. We shouldn't have to do it and Ryanair shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.

    Dear all,

for a flight from Altenburg (Germany) to London Standsted and back I paid with a German credit card for 2 friends. They went shopping during their stay, so for the return flight from London I added 2 checked bags for them. The Ryanair page showed the prices in Euro: 20.00 for each bag. I put in my UK credit card details, and the sum in the end showed 40 Euro. I clicked "purchased now" and suddenly they showed they charged the UK credit card with 62 STERLING.
The exchange rate given was 1.55675.
I basically paid, if you take one of the currend exchange rates on the internet, DOUBLE the price (40 Euro is about 33 Pounds at the moment).
This is unbelievable!!! What can I do now?
I thought about ringing Ryanair Hotline first thing tomorrow (they are closed now) and cancel the extra bags only to re-book with my German credit card right after. Does anyone know if this works? Or I thought about reporting my credit card as stolen at the bank right now to prevent the payment to go through. Any other tips? Please help!
    Nicole

P.S. After reading the post about unticking the 'guaranteed exchange rate' (...showpost.html?p=33264447&) I went back to the Ryanair Page and pretended to book another bag. It is true, after you put in the credit card number it appears. I've booked with Ryanair and I thought I know all the tricks :( This is mean. Still looking for help how to get my money back. They went from 33 Pounds actual exchange rate to 62 pounds.

So why continue with the booking? I suspect you are missing something
but sure if you like porridge report the card stolen!!!!

The Ryanair charge 15 euro per bag (each way) not 20
Plus 5 euro per person each way for people silly enough to pay with a credit card rather than a pre-paid Mastercard.

    Hi,
thank you for your quick reply. I am sorry but I don't understand your answer 'So why continue with the booking?' - could you please explain?

You'll have got the e-mail "Ryanair Travel Itinerary" from Ryanair by now
which shows a very detailed breakdown of the total charges, what does it actually say?

Just cut and paste the charges breakdown

    Which would you rather pay

15 quid (from the UK paid in Sterling)

    or

15 Euro even with a currency loading? (to the UK from the Eurozone)

You can use your fingers if your like and itake your socks of if you need to!

Don't worry about the ash cloud answers you're looking at at the moment (strange how many Ryanair problems you have I never do and I've done hundreds of flights with them.)

If you cut and paste the charges breakdown perhaps an answer will appear.

The couple of times I let Ryanair charge the local currency back to my Neteller pre paid, I found there was not much difference anyway as Mastercard will load the currency conversion and Neteller take a % as well. These were sub £50 transactions.
