Sounds like it was outside ebay and not covered. Sadly its tough luck unless you can prove that you
asked the seller if it had been in an accident and they said no, But they knew it had.
Would be hard to prove that, If he didnt do a HPI check then he wouldnt know. My current car is the only
one i have ever HPI checked and that was only because a mate had one AA check left from the (5)? he paid for.

You're so many dodgy car dealers' dream customer :rotfl:0 -
The dodgy Russians who bought my old motor never did an HPI check either0
-
as for the sliding rear end check tyre pressures and condition
nothing wrong or dangerous driving a cat c if its repaired properly been mot'd and vic checked0 -
My mint condition 306 was declared a Cat C after a collision with a badger destroyed the front bumper and radiator (and some random bits), £2800 worth of damage (insurance repair figure), fixable for under £900. For insurance repairs they take the quote and tripple it......
The guy who brought that car to fix up got one hell of a bargain motor!!
Cat C purely means that the cost of repair x 3 is higher than 75% of the cars value.
The damage could have been very little indeed.
For example the new Nissan GTR, a front bumper costs £10'000.... So on those cars in 5 years time even just a small crack in the bumper is going to be headed for Cat C.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Yes same here, I put mine on ebay and got a good cash offer and some dodgy Russians turned up and paid me in cash before I even unlocked the car door! They never even drove it. It was taxed and MOT'd and they towed it away.
I took both their vehicle registration details and mobile phone numbers etc etc and sent a detailed letter to the DVLA when I advised them it was sold.
It was all so strange!
I have since spoken to the DVLA on the phone and they have confirmed that the car is no longer registered to me so I do not know what to think.0 -
Just wanted to add my 2 pence to the thread and say that I bought my 1997 Corsa from ebay 4 years ago...it cost £500 and it's been a great wee run around. Passed every MOT and other than the normal basic maintainance, it has never needed any major repairs.0

Aye, my two had some very peculiar ideas about how the paperwork should be filled out.
However, the car was in a Barracks with plenty of back-up so we did it properly.0 -
Agree with previous posters in that
A - yes you have been a bit stupid
B - There isnt anything you can do
C - This may explain why the car was so cheap
But
D - Cat C isnt a disaster could have been a Cat Dbut thing to do is check the reason for the Cat claim - I think you can do this through DVLA and then if your still nervous get someone to independently check that area of the vehicle. I have seen flood damaged vehicles be given a cat D and been back on the road a few weeks later.

Thanks for the vote in confidence  :A
Last car a 2001 MK3 petrol mondeo, Paid £2000 in april 2006, Replaced front discs & pads one rear brake caliper, And 2 basic filter changes in 4 years. Towed a caravan to cornwall and skegness every year.
That was a good buy.
Current car a 2004 diesel estate, Broken spring, Crap battery, Front pads will need doing very soon. Rear caliper might be sticking.
Hope its all good after that. :money:???
Fingers crossed.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
