Today i bought a ford focus estate from someone. I saw the car advertised on ebay and managed to persuade them to sell me it after her reserve price wasnt met. Got home and did a vehicle check online ( yes i know should of done before but never had a problem with any vehicle off there before ) to find out was a cat c insurance write off!!! got in touch with dvla who told me was legal to drive as was taxed motd insured now dont know whether to get back in it again as really worried about safety of vehicle. should i get an inspection done or just have it motd and obviously if major faults they will tell me. Also can i take any action against seller if is seriously dangerous???
Thanks in advance all help duely grateful :D

    Hello

Just wondering why you didn't get it checked before you bought it?

Also how did you pay.. cash?

Have a look on the v5 document. A marker should be added to the bottom of the front page if the vehicle has been checked and declared safe to drive. This is a comment from VOSA who should have safety checked the car. If the car has been tested it has obviously been declared safe to drive. You should inform your insurance company that the vehicle is a cat c write off though, and unfortunately the fact it is a cat c write off usually halfs its trade value, so hope you plan to keep the vehicle.

I'm sure there's loads of people selling on ebay chuckling to themselves that buyers can't be bothered to check the history of the car. Suspect that's the reason noone else was interested in it :) And now that you've no doubt dealt outside ebay you can't even leave negative feedback.

6 cars in 2 years? nope.

If I was worried, i'd throw it in for an MOT.

Did you buy it THROUGH ebay ? Not really sure, but there could be some come back. Obviously this wasn't declared on the listing.

Good advice by scotsman4th - chuck it in for a MOT. Out of interest how much did you pay for the car ?
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.
