Freeview not working

I went out this afternoon to do some errands and came back about an hr and a half later to find my Freeview channels gone and TV on blue screen for that button (we have Freeview tuned in to a separate channel). The box appears to be working as I have done the uual pull the plug out and wait etc which usually resets it. *(Have had issues usually on Sunday mornings when it has gone off before and doing this usually fixes it.)

I am loathe to think it is a broken box as I only got it in Late Feb/March plus the fact all lights are working and can change it on an off and standby. It just seems as if the signal has gone off.

Can anyone help? Have looked at the Freeview page but there seems no note as to loss of signal in my area etc.

You seem to be watching your freeview box through the RF out lead, does your TV not have a scart socket?, I would connect the box that way as a trial.
But if not double check the RF lead both ends and retune Chan 6 on your TV.

OK, well you state you have the freeview tuned in on a separate channel and this is just blue screen.
You should not be watching via this tuned in RF, you should be watching VIA scart, using the AV setting corresponding to the scart socket being used, ie. AV1 AV2.
If after a 5 sec reboot both the AV and the RF channel are both blue it would seem its back to the shop we go.

Obviously as you are aware the box not sending a signal to the TV is not related to the freeview signal strength.
  • mine too, it was ok last night and this morning it says there is no signal - not right - weather clear as a bell!!

Mine still isnt working and now it is cool. I cant take it back to the shop as I got it from an offer in the Daily Mail. There is no way I can know if there is any local issue with signals etc but as box can be turnd on and off and put on standby, the box isnt technically broken ?

Sorry Kurtis I am not tech minded enough to know what RF is. I know that it is connected to the tv by a scart lead and also plugged into the aeriel socket on the wall. ( we live in a flat) AV1 is where we have the dvd player attached. I dont think there is enough socket holes etc to plug both freeview and dvd in AV1?Sorry if I appar to be talking nonsense but aside from pcs I am not techminded.

AV seems to be black screen tho.

There is also no way of knowing if there is a probem with transmitter or signal in my area.

Take your Freeview box round to a neighbour / friend who also has one. Replace his box with yours and see if it works - if it doesn't - it's the box that is faulty. Have you tried re-scanning - it may have become de-tuned?

If it does work on the other set, it's either your TV, your connecting leads or something has gone wrong with your set-up between the tv and the box, but at least you will have eliminated one possibility.

David thanks. I would have done this but we don't know any of the neighbours (as we live in a set of flats with a lot of druggies and undesirables shall we say, this isnt really safe)and my only friend pays for his satellite.

I'm not sure what you mean by rescanning it. I have tried to unplug etc...

All boxes have a method of tuning in stations when you first switch them on. They "scan" the full spectrum of airwaves and automatically tune them in.

There should be a menu somewhere in your controls (possibly headed "Set Up" or "Scan for More Stations") that will allow you to start this process off all over again and automatically retune the box into the Freeview stations.

It sounds as though your box (assuming it is not faulty) has lost its tuning information and needs you to recover it. It needs doing occasionally with most boxes so that they can find any new stations that may have come on air since you first set the box up.

If you have an instruction book, it will tell you how to do it in there.
