Oooooo Mike that is exciting, have you extended the invitation? You could tell him that your guests normally bring food with them and you would happily accept cakes on this occasion. I am sure he will find it all a huge transformation. I wonder if the garage was for stoing the boat?!? Keep us posted won't you. Billie xx

It's traditional to take me out for a meal somewhere nice. New rule.

If it gets any windier and wetter round here I'm going to be canoeing around the kitchen later tonight...

Wow, just watching you on DIY SOS. I take my hat off to you... you are a strong! I have had some experience of what you have been through but not on your scale. I have been through the depression, being conned, fighting for what is 'just' through the legal system (but realise I am probably throwing money down the drain).

Just wanted to say good on you for going the distance.

Most people go through stuff, sometimes I don't know how they manage. We don't know until we have to do it. I'm glad you found the resources in yourself to get through it. I'm sure your story is no less harrowing.

The legal system only seems to work for some people doesn't it?

Mike, how interesting about the man who knew your house as a holiday home! I wonder if he has any old photos? I remember going with my Dad to visit his father's holiday place, a cottage in the Trough of Bowland, and the couple living there asked us in. It meant a lot to Dad to go back and he pointed out where he'd done some DIY in 1930-something!

MW - I wish I'd been a fly on the wall! I bet all heads turned! But they were quite right to applaud.

Thanks Miggy but I didn't deserve any applause. I personally did very little in Mike's house because of my arthritis. One little known fact was that all those helping in the house had to wear hob nail boots. There were none that fitted me so I just helped outside peeling price tags etc off mirrors, cups and saucers, cushions - you name it. The flat pack queens are the one's deserving the applause. They know who there are.:A

    That goes without saying. :)

When I come to think of it, if posts are supposed to be thanked because they are useful... I've probably earned about three of mine and other than that I have some very strange friends! :D

MW, without you Mike would still be cursing the sticky label manufacturers. As I am doing... I am told white spirit works well. I loathe the smell of it but I can't put up with a big tacky circle on my cooker door much longer. So you see - hob nail boots or no, you still played an important part. In fact I may end up shouting for help if I can't find the white spirit. :)

Miggy you can buy something called 'Sticky Stuff Remover' but not sure what it smells like! Of course the sticky circle will become harder to remove if the oven has been used and the door has become warm!! Home made Christmas Cake and Mince Pies this year then..... Billie xx
