SB (and Billie) I'm looking forward to meeting you.

I can sew but I'd be tempted if the curtain isn't huge to sew by hand to be honest. Depends whether the stitching for the hem is on show (machine) or not. I am more successful at hiding the stitching by hand. What length of curtain and how heavy are we talking Mike?

I was thinking of bringing some teak oil down for you as its the right time of year for feeding that wood in the back garden.

Give us a bit of notice of the date so I can sort out who I'm staying with on the way down and get my bus sorted.

  • Date is still under discussion as not sure if more people could make it in August or September? Also, July is now getting very close. However, I do know that SB is very much looking forward to getting back to Littlehampton. Any suggestions?

Maty - not getting cold feet and agree that all who had any input is as important as the rest - it is just that some of us will now bee feeling how you all did before 17th June '10!
Butti - me too and very excited, even though also scared!
Pyscho -understand about wanting to get as many as possible, but with all events there are always people who can not make one set of dates, can the next, but then others can't make those. From a very personal point of view, 30th July suits me and August and September have already got various activities taking place. However, I will go along with whatever and try and make it come what may. Waiting with baited breath.
Okay my rants are over and looking forward to the meet.
    Take care all Billie xx

I've suggested on Doodle the last date proposed as most people could do that.

Was there something else I was meant to comment on?

    Teak oil - sounds good

Sewing curtains - yes please! There are four, no ore than a metre wide so probably not too frightening. Also if the thread's cream or white it won't show. Thanks for all the offers. (Just need to sort out who's bringing the food, the drink, flowers for the window boxes, and all that. :rotfl:)

    Any other queries, PM me?

    Thanks awfully. :)

    Hiya guys!

Seems we've all been reflecting on last years events. Lots I wanted to say but wasn't sure if I should, don't think all my personal difficulties were overcome tbh. I surprised myself at how involved I was with your thread last year, my head always tells me 'what use am I' and 'will I fit in' so I can't tell you how nervous I was when I made my first post, didn't think it would be noticed to be honest..I was fine with that, I was good at being invisible and had lots of practice...I'd been very reclusive for 7years. I probably had depression for longer than that. It knocked me on my aris!

So a year ago, I was throwing up, mouth full of ulcers leading up to meeting everyone. I was a wreck! Desperate to meet you all but fearing that all these lovely people that seemed to like me on the thread, friends that I'd made...wouldn't actually like me when they met me. I felt a fraud, especially with kindly compliments being posted, I was the one being carried through last year by all of you. the reason I remember post and page numbers is because I'd re-read all the highs and lows over and over, you guys weren't just lifting Mike's sprirts, you were lifting mine too. I had the best time ever! Mike's right, you're all amazing so can I thank you too, miggy was spot on....the thread was like food for the soul!

Mike...you've been the most amazing of all, look what you created! You brought out the very best in people, you brought out the best in me....not bad for an ordinary bloke! Thanks for listening and for nudging me to rejoin the land of the living. I think the friendships made are as solid as your funny little house!

So anyhooo.. thought I'd turned a corner, came home and wouldn't you know it, RL went and knocked me on me a55 again!!! Back to la la land, I function better as a crank with quirks....I just don't function every day!

Spent most of the year looking for my mojo, should have looked here first...found it!

Sorry I've been awol for so long (i'm a work in process) but knowing where you all are is what helps me get back on my feet again. Thanks Mobsters! xxx Thanks Mike!xxx

PS...Am also looking forward to seeing you all again and finally getting to meet more of you, just can't think about it too much....I'll throw up! (nothing personal!)
pps....Mike, shall I bring the sewing machine...I can't alter curtains, I only work with checks but I think some of your mob can sew!!!
PPPS...Nick Knowles is quitting the BBC..and DIY SOS, how sad is that? I think he said he had the time of his life being involved with DIY SOS....he's not the only one.

I think the only difference between you and any of us is you admitted what we're all feeling! You've done brilliantly.

The nerves we all felt last year were completely unfounded, we all just rubbed along. It really is amazing how close we all felt & still do. The original thread and how far we all came on Mike's journey pulled us all together and what a great team we make :T

So looking forward to being back together with my internet buddies :D

Keep watching, we will have a decision sooooon ;)

Hya all...sorry not been on here much..life intervening as usual.

Lots of hugs ((((((SB))))))...I think a lot of us here suffer from low self-esteem and self doubt, and have had the odd visit from the black dog. So take care of yourself SB.

As for shortening curtains Mike...better to shorten at the top...remove tape, turn over and re-sew tape, as bottom hem is usually a good thickness and finish...also easier to disguise squint sewing at top...farther away and not noticed so much :rotfl:

Still haven't caught up with all the new posts...could someone PM me any dates you are considering...quite fancy a trip to the sea-side down south...heading to Orkney this summer, can't wait, only 4 weeks to go :j!

Best get off to bed, shattered tonight...see you again later in the week. x

Looked up train fares to Littlehampton... £200+... if I am MIA don't worry, I've started walking. ;)

I seem to remember someone worked out something more realistic from the sunny NE?

I'm enjoying the free sewing classes, btw, thanks!

  • How about bus Miggy? or train to London and you can jump in with Maty or me? Depending on your personal plans of course.

Billie has suggested we all make a note of what we would like to bring for our picnic (Mike, this does not apply to you) so can you all maybe make a mention of it on the doodle poll comments?
