I've been with Orange since they were freeserve, wanaddo etc and my main email addy is a .freeserve.co.uk. However, due to Orange's very poor service recently i am changing ISP's.

Is there any way i can still keep the email addy with my new provider?

no,all you could do is forward the emails to your new address for as long as Orange allow it
in real terms its better to get your own domain and retain your own email addresses( or go with googlemail or the like)
im with VM but if i ever leave I will be doing just that

Best to just get a Gmail account and send the details to everyone on your address book.

What poor service have you suffered?

    Orange only resells BT.

We've got Orange in one house - it's free with OH's mobile contract (legacy deal - not available to new customers).

Domain name registration averages out between 99p and £5 per year, having your own mail server on top (along with webspace and all the other crap) can be had for as little as £20 per year.

You will get capped for going over FUP by nearly all, if not all ISPs.

Even the ones that were thought to be completely unlimited are starting to apply caps, because the high volume users are increasing in number due to the growth in streaming (it used to be mainly down to piracy).

Orange were originally re-sellers of BT Wholesale broadband, using BT hardware. They started selling their own unbundled product but are returning to re-selling BT's services:

It's easy! i've done it with my Freeserve account (I've had it since freeserve started!!)

Step 1) Buy cheep Domain name that's acceptable for you.
Step 2) Set up a google Apps account (it's free!) http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/group/index.html
Step 3) Register your domain name with google apps account (It takes a few hours and involves uploading a file to your domain.)
Step 4) Set Google mail to pick up your Freeserve mail via pop3
    Step 5) Relax....
total cost = few hours of time and £12 for domain registration...

Also check out SKY or UKOnline LLU services, think they are the only TRUE mainstream unlimited broadband providers around... (I'm on UK Online and i've downloaded every Linux DVD ISO i found over a month (100Gb+ not a peep from them...) ^_^

What's all this about capping Orange download allowance? I've been paying £27.99 a month ever since I got a home PC when I could easily halve that or even less, but I kept it on because I was under the impression that there was no maximum download limit.

If they are moving the goalposts (ooh topical insert lol) they need to let customers know so we can vote with our direct debits.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

They are starting to strictly enforce the "Fair Use" provision in your broadband contract. so no change of actual contract or service, just how they are enforcing it. So no notification required.

Orange Do LLU too. Neither their LLU or their service over BT's network is particularly rated. They also appear to class 65GB as a heavy user.

I'd class that as a pretty moderate user, especially these days.
