I know Barclays student acconuts are opened at the discretion of the branch manager and not the computer, but whether you want to bank with Barclays is another matter... Last ditch fallback I suppose :o
Ooooh interesting.... might have to try that one! So they basically interview you for an account!?

I'm off to university in September, and contemplating what I should do about my bank account. I can keep first direct, but would not be able to get anymore then the £250 overdraft, or I can change my HSBC account to a student account however it's unlikely they'll give me a student overdraft as I still have 40 searches on my credit file.

I could also try Natwest as they're meant to be good to students?
Natwest give you a railcard... I've just had mine for 2nd year... and I'm now off to somebody else with any luck! Such incompetent clowns at that place. They do seem to accept a lot of people though...

    F**k bo**ocks sh*t!

Just checked my credit file with Equifax and found a new "outstanding debt" search at my old address by UK Search limited. I have a feeling this will be about an old statute barred debt (by the way they've written my name- I've already informed them in writing last year the debt is SB) but will have to wait until such time as they contact me at the new address to see who is handling the debt this time around. So that's another 2 years of crap I have on my file- just when my file was getting good too!

How badly do these searches affect your score? I only have one other of these searches which will fall off in January.

I plan on (or had planned on) reapplying for a Sygma card at the end of the year, probably January, by which time the only other adverse info on my report will be a couple of late payment markers on my mobile contract (the last being Jan 2010).

Will this search (assuming I can't get it removed once I find out who was behind it) be the nail in the coffin that stops me getting any more credit?

Oh, and what is a CPD marker?

CPD is Credit Policy Decline and is a Lloyds only thing.

Ask Equifax to remove it via the online dispute especially seeing as you've stated its SB'd.

I will do once I can confirm it is the statute barred debt the search is in relation to. Unless you think it worth disputing it now?

If it is not a full search but only an enquiry then you have nothing to worry about

Dispute now Worst that can happen is that it isnt removed due to a possible other debt?? in which case you'll find out what said debt is.

It is a Table 1 search (as well as two Table 2 searches) so therefore is visible to all.

Does anyone know if these searches are as bad as a late payment or a default? I know they are seen as adverse (because they say so) but the gravity is not clear anywhere.

Thank you. I have submitted a dispute to them.

I am fairly sure this relates to a £110 debt with ARG Equation which used to be GUS Home Shopping. This is an ongoing issue that goes back to 1999. The debt has been statute barred since 2006 and have informed 2 dca's of this, the last being last summer. If this is a 3rd dca I'm going to scream!
