Finance for a car whilst on benefits
Options
Hiya, hope you can help me cos im new to all this
My sisters partner has just past his drivin test and they are looking to get a car. She is on long term sick and in receipt of low rate mobility DLA so does not qualify for the mobility scheme so would be looking to get a car on finance. She spoke to a garage who said finance would not be available to anyone on benefits. She has no other way to pay for a car as cannot save at the moment but if she got a car she could repay around £80 a month from what shed save on bus passes and taxi fares.
She has average credit and has never missed a pymt on her catalogues which are her only debt but will not be registered on the electoral register till august so is it worth the wait till then before looking at options?
Also where could she get credit? Does anyone know a reputable company who would do finance for someone on those kind of benefits?
Any help would be much appreciated by me and my sister as neither of us know n e one who has been in this situation and have no clue how to go on. The car would be £2000-£3000
THANKS

Very unlikely to get that size of loan on benefits in the current economic climate. Not being on the electoral roll is just another nail in the coffin.
Even if she could get a loan on benefits, £80 is not much at all to be repaying on that size of loan.
Does her partner work? If he does and he has a good credit history and not much existing debt then maybe it would be possible for him to get a loan. But if he has only just passed his test the insurance is going to be very high for any car (possibly as much as a car) and you need to factor in how they will pay for that.
Really they need to be looking to save up between them and buy a car for around £500 or so.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
no he is a full time carer and the £80 is after car tax insurance etc. tbh any automatic car will do there is just no chance of saving atm with paying so much on travel for 2 people and taxis to hospital appointments etc. finance for a car of £1000 to £2000? just any info on what companies or options to look at? the only options i rli know of for a loan of £500 is something like provident which is just not an option i would want them to go down with the interest.
thanks for the quick response0 -
has she inquired how much insurance will be
typically for a new driver one can expect to pay over £1,000 per year depending upon age, location etc.0 -
yeah estimate around £1000 she has thought it through she really doesnt live beyond her means has a £400 catalogue debt just from when she was in hospital but thats it and she knows she cannot afford to go into this unprepared she used all her prev savings before the illness on the lessons and test but she made budget cuts to suit her financial situation. theres jus no chance to save with the cost of travel atm0

I work in the motor trade and you can pick up a good car for a few hundred, do you know anyone who works in any dealership wether its sales, parts or a mechanic, they quite often get trade ins they want rid of and will sell for cheap.
One problem that hasn't helped though was the scrappage scheme the old cars that used to get traded in had to be scrapped so there was a surge of old decent cars now unfortunatley scrapped.
But be careful if the deal looks to good get someone you know to check it out.0 -
any cost is fine but its just usually the minimum u can apply for is £1000-£3000
thanks for your help0 -
If she can only afford £80 a month then she can't afford a car.0

£80 jus on repayments? so is there no options at all anywhere for people in this situation?0
