I found this piece on the BBC website.

Apparently those god playing scientists have created a GM mosquito that will not allow the malaria parasite to breed within it. They will give it a competitive advantage and release it to the wild to out compete its malaria ridden opponents.

I for one am sickened by this meddling with nature, and if I`m going to be bitten I want it to be by a natural mosquito, thank you very much. If I die of malaria like Billions before me, that is Gias way of telling me I`m using too much power.

Interesting sting in the tail there. Quote from that article: "The other is to give the malaria-resistant mosquitoes an additional genetic boost, such as a gene that makes them resistant to toxins that could be used against unmodified mosquitoes"

If they get it wrong, not that scientists make mistakes, who fancies mosquitoes that are pesticide immune, that then lose their malarial resistance

Many strains of mosquito are pesticide immune already. To release this GM strain without immunity would result in them dying and the malarial ones living.

I wish the tomatoes would hurry up, my fault for being late in sowing them.

My runner beans are a few days away yet, but to get your mouth watering :D

Their theory was that there were `too many people on the planet`.
Out of interest, does anyone think that there aren't too many people on the planet already?* Surely if we were an animal controlled by us, we would be culled in vast numbers.

Yes but how would the cull go?

If it was like the deer in my local park then all the old would be gonnas. If it was like the rabbits where I use to live it would be anyone of us.

    Either way would cause problems.

BTW I have had to use chilli powder in my shed to keep the local squirrel who thinks it fun to go in there out. I haven't seen it chew the grass fertilizer boxes or other things I've kept in there but I'm not taking a risk. One squirrel suffocating itself in there is enough.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Well obviously I would be OK :D

I could make some funny joke here, but tbh, however I put it, it sounds way too much like the Nazis in WW2 :embarasse

Throwing a bit of a curve here-my OH is an investment banker (don't shoot the messenger) and I keep asking when the day will come where he will buy us a house in the country, have 2 dogs, keep chickens and I can fritter away each day baking cakes, and picking fruit to make jam with.

I would happily make everything we ate strictly from scratch-fresh bread baked every morning, harvest veggies and salad daily for each meal and sit outdoors each evening watching night fall.

I get the same answer every time......"not yet princess, but one day I promise"......The feeling of possibility will see me through :)
There used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.

you dont need to be in the countryside, and baking all afternoon is certainly not frittering away the day! Today I have baked a loaf, bread rolls and a chocolate cake. I have made lunch and dinner with home grown salad stuff and veggies. It takes ages and is proper constructive work which is much appreciated by my family.:T
You could start home baking right away, and even dig over some garden, if you have any, to grow veg, or try growing herbs on the windowledges in window boxes. Jam making and other preserves can be done too.
