... and 8 months later he asks...
    what's the best option

    microfilter,
    BT iPlate or
    XTE 2005 from ADSLNation??

I've just bought the adslnation XTE-2005 base plate and a one of their RJ11 cables. My question is - I want to connect the unfiltered line to the AB terminals as I only want to connect my ADSL modem at the extension port in my study. Trouble is, the socket in the study is a normal BT phone socket and I need to convert that to RJ11 - can I just plug in a microfilter as this would effectively give me what I'm looking for? I'm a little concerned that adding the unnecessary microfilter on the line might have some impact (though there wouldn't be a phone connected beyond it).

    thanks, Keith

I'm afraid I didn't make myself clear - I know that the master socket is where the XTE-2005 goes. I'm just saying I need to convert from the normal BT extension socket type in the study to an RJ11 socket. Is there such a thing? Maplin don't seem to stock something like this. Is there a formal name for the BT type phone plug/sockets?

I'm glad that I have read this thread my broadband connection is not stable. I will be checking on the Microfilter if its attached on the socket correctly.

First thing I do when checking the ADSL connection - line, microfilter, modem, configuration. Although I think the microfilter should be on the master socket too.

Lately my internet connection is not stable and I remember this thread about microfilter. I discovered that its not plugged properly that is why I think its one of the reasons why my connection is not stable.

My internet connection is in a very bad condition for almost two weeks I am calling the technical support to check why its happening. I've checked the microfilter socket if its connected correctly and I think the problem is in the base station. What I think was right my internet service provider is conducting a system restoration. I'm so thankful that its back after two weeks of intermittent signal connection

I've been with O2 home broadband since Jan 09 and I've too been experiencing loads of connection problems over the past couple of weeks. I was without a connection for around 8 hours on the 18th November. Phoned O2 and they just didn't have a clue why. Then the next day I got a call from them offering me 3 months free if I renew my contract. I think not if they don't improve.
