Return of a deposit

We placed an order for replacement windows 8 weeks ago and paid a deposit. 10 days ago the supplier advised us they could not provide us with the finish we ordered. They have offered an alternative but it is not what we want. We have told them that we are cancelling the order and have been told to contact the head office for a refund of our deposit.

I am not sure whether they will drag their heels in refundng us so just wondered how long is it reasonable to wait for refund of the deposit when they have waited 8 weeks to tell us they could not fulfill our order?

Edited to add: The point at which they told us was just as we were waiting for the call to arrange fitting.

Eh? At least i answered. You? Having a bad day? And "made up"? Get a grip chap and calm down.

The whole point of this is that the OP is ENTITLED to a refund. How long it takes? Depends on the circumstances. If they procrastinate, then OP can and should issue proceedings for the recovery.

Thank you for your replies - personally I feel if they were to take thirty days it would be a bl**dy liberty after their late admission.

I think 30 days is correct unfortunately but there is nothing to stop you sending email after email and calling them....they may do it to get rid of you :)
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

    Where is that stated?

Funnily enough, under the paragraph titled "Refunds" :P *runs*

    Refunds

The supplier must reimburse you within 30 days of cancellation, without charge, unless you have been informed that you will be liable for the cost of returning the goods. If you have any related credit agreements, these will also be cancelled.

Does the term 'completion notice' equate to 'cancellation notice'?

So talk me through how the DSR or Doorstep Selling Regs applies to this given that the order was placed 8 weeks ago....
