  • With the reviews its got on Amazon I'm expecting it to sort the house out for me :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:! Although do you get paid to feature your house on daytime telly shows like that - maybe there is a money making opportunity here?!

    Must go to Post Office to send RISI book.

    Will interpret main points tyo and write them up in my own inimitable style - that definitely won't be breaking copyright ;)

    Had a lovely evening with friend - had spiced pumpkin and beef gourmet sausages from the freezer (picked up for a song at Mr S clearance), mash and gravy, followed by Mr s basics frozen fruits crumble (or soggy I think it is called), yum! Great to have some adult company after work too.

    Mr A delivery turned up bang on time, no strange substitutes or anything missing :D. Also had belated bday present from sister turn up, new exercise DVD and new readers digest sewing book, both look fab so thanks sis!

    Friend just left, and realised I had 25 minutes before theb0okpeople 10% code I was emailed expired! So just ordered 10 books - mostly cookery books - got free delivery, 10% off, free RHS diary perfect for step-mil's upcoming bday - oh, and at least £2 cashback - all from £40 spend! 10 presents for £40! I feel like I've ripped them off! Lots of ticking off I can do now on the Xmas list and that morning I couldn't sleep was well worth it from a research point of view as I knew what I needed. Order put through with 2 mins to spare :D.

    Found out by sheer chance that my acupuncture clinic has shut down :eek: as university went bust a week or so ago. Was due to go Sunday, and feel quite sad about it as I really liked my practicioner. Have somewhere else in mind, is more expensive, and on Saturdays, so thinking will have to wait til Jan or Feb as can't commit to every sat for the requisite 5 weeks at the minute. Hope migraines stay manageable in the meantime.

    Tomorrow I plan to:
    [STRIKE]* take DD to local Xmas fete[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]* take trolley load of clothes to charity shop[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]* pick up parcel from post office[/STRIKE] declutter book
    * post RISI book :o
    * bank cheques x 3 (£48 :j)
    * pick up resoled boots tomorrow
    * buy disclosure tablets for DD tomorow
    [STRIKE]* make chicken casserole in slow cooker[/STRIKE] looking good!
    * 1 x washload
    * possibly library visit to return books move to tomorrow as going swimming now instead
    * X factor!

    Keep your fingers crossed, am hoping to find some good presents at the fete.

  • good luck with the pressie hunt mw!!
    I know what you mean about feeling youve ripped people off getting such good deals ;)
    oh what a shame about the acc clinic - hope your new one is good . I keep meaning to go back for some actually , the practitioner I see is fab but its quite a bit of money and a part of me feels like "Ill just see how well I go without it" then again if it keeps me healthy enough to work and enjoy life properly then thats probably a better use of money than a few months off the mortgage...

    enjoy your saturday!

    Hi MW, :hello:

    I was just checking in to see how things are going for you particularly with the acupuncture, so was sorry to see your most recent post about the clinic shutting down. It's tough when you've found someone you like and trust and have to change in a situation like that, as well as the money aspect. Am glad it seems to have been helping though, and hope you manage ok until you get back to the clinic.

    I'm also going to second Queen Bee's comment about your meal plan, am looking forward to hearing about the aubergine and sweet potato chili, sounds like something I would love.

    Hope you have a good weekend.

    :hello: Hello saver-j and tyo :hello:. Thanks for posting, its always exciting to find i have new posts. At least I have given the acupuncture a go, and found some respite from the migraines with it. There are other teaching clinics I can go to, and I know if it came to it, I would pay more to avoid being debilitated - as you say TYO you can't put a price on being able to function! Saver-j - I will post the recipes as I go along, hope they are of use.

    A very good day. Spoke to OH in china for 1 hr - used the telephone price finder and called him in the hotel for 0.5p a minute! Amazing! We've only snatched a few minutes conversation here and there so good to be able to talk properly, even if it is about what I've had out the freezer!

    Xmas fete was really good - run by local st John Ambulance, and having talked to the organiser am quite keen to send DD. Sounds like a great organisation, only problem is it is on swimming night. I think when she goes to next level, will change swimming day (again). This will involve much chat with OH (again!) about our nights off. Groan! Will wait to see when passes swimming.

    Anyway, much more importantly got lots of bargains :D. A famous department store had given lots of old christmas stock that was really cheap. Got star shaped xmas card holders - 4, at 50p each (still with tags on £9 originally! - 2 for us, 2 for gifts), all our xmas cards for £4 (68) - that is 6p a card!!! They are really nice 1930s vogue style illustration ones. Also got some wooden swedish style christmas decorations for £5.50, I think 7 in all. Will keep one cute tree with robins for us, another for teacher, and ones which spell out peace can be xmas presents for family. With a cheeky go on the raffle, and danish pastry for DD, have spent £13. Could have got lots more but couldn't work out who it was for... should have taken gifts to get list.

    Rushed back for next fete which is actually tomorrow. Instead, took trolley load of clothes to charity shop, came out with MADE bracelet in packaging which will either be gift or keep, and two books for £2, one of which I will use for my CPD work I am doing at the moment.

    Gave DD £2 and she has been really careful with spending it, stopped her asking me for everything. Budgeting begins at 8!

    Stopped in park on way back, and then went swimming this afternoon together. Was fun session, so had floats out and we had an hour together just being really silly :). Have signed DD up for kids for a quid, so was just under a fiver for us both (and I found 50p in a locker!).

    Started reading declutter book and must have worked - have sorted out 1 kitchen cupboard, 2 drawers, and the top of the fridge in 20 minutes! Will summarise my thoughts on it when finished it.

  • Last post too long- have split it up. This is my first recipe ;)

    DD loved the english style chicken casserole (think slightly chip shop curry sauce!). I used a 1kg pack of chicken thighs, and browned all over in a frying pan (takes about 10 mins on med-high heat). I left the skin on QB, but next time I might try browning them without the skin on as a lot of fat came off. I put the chicken bits in the bottom of the slow cooker, drained the fat from the frying pan, and then lightly fried some sliced celery, whole small button mushrooms (1 pack from Mr A), and a chopped onion. Once slightly golden, I added 1 tbsp of curry powder (I had Madras, but any would be fine), heated for a minute or so to get flavour out of it, and then added a tin of condensed soup. I had low fat chicken. Add sauce to slow cooker and cook for approx 6 hours on low. Could add some coriander if you have it, we didn't! We had it with plain rice. DD gave it 10 out of 10! I didn't think it was fancy, but an easy family dish, would def make again. Enough for me and DD for two meals each (1 piece for her, 2 for me), but to feed 4 proper I would think about 1.5kg or 8-10 chicken thighs.

  • :(:(:( Oh god I feel a total mess now! Bumped into neighbour at Xmas fair, never met her before but she knew me. First thing she asked was about our loft and how we'd got permission to build it. Insert confused smiley here, as as far as I am aware, it is within building regs, plans were submitted to council and approved, and there is no issue. According to this neighbour (and her husband) they had tried to do a similar type of conversion to ours (L-shaped) and their architect had told them the council would not approve. This conversation (borderline ear bashing) carried on for over 20 minutes, where I was warned that I might need to pay a large fine, or take it down, and that the building company might go bust so I would be liable :eek::eek::eek::(:(:(

    For somebody I'd never met I thought it was quite a personal and slightly aggresive conversation to have (at one point they both said hope we've not ruined your day now, to which I said politely well yes, I think you have, but it doesn't matter). I'm really upset and quite angry about it, but in my usual self, I was super polite and reassured them I would check my builders had a certificate of lawfulness (which I have never even heard of) and let them know. Why did I say that????? Why didn't I go tell them to mind their own business????:mad::mad::mad: A 20 minute public conversation about works on my house - not just raining on my parade but !!!!ing on my house!!!

    So now I'm in a mad panic, came home in floods of tears and called OH sobbing. A quick internet search has done nothing to put my mind at rest. Am trying to be positive in front of DD but she knows I'm upset. Have fired off email to builders but won't hear back til tomorrow at least. Now face another evening alone, trying not to think about it.

    Sorry about my earlier typo - i'm glad you knew what i meant ;)

    How awful of your neighbour to speak to you like that. I know you are going to worry about it now and will probably lose sleep but I am sure everything is legit with it and you have nothing to worry about. Some people really are very bitter - try and ignore their nasty comments.
