Not sure if this is the right area for this post. Apologies if it isn't. Any tips on how to clean, or get cleaned, my wheelie bin? It's getting stinkeeeee! Or could I get a new one off the council?

you can get companies who clean them, i see them down my road, cleaning bins with a special thingy and high powered hoses, am tempted to ask them how much as mine could do with a spring clean! look in your local/free paper

I normally throw a couple of buckets water and some bleach in mine and leave it to stand for a bit. Then have a good slosh around inside with a mop, then leave it upended until it's dry.
Here I go again on my own....

Thanks. I did put some bleach in and water, but it's quite grim in the bottom and it didn't help alot as there is quite a bit of rubbish which is stuck at the bottom.

I get mine cleaned every fortnight it costs £2.95 each bin but worth it as i just cant get it as clean and germ free as the wheelie bin men.
I know of a lot of people who just lay theirs on the side, hose and clean with an old mop and then leave to dry. You can buy wheelie fresh too to freshen after a clean.

Wrapping food waste in newspaper has helped a lot and i have also been using carrier bags instead of black bin liners which seems to have helped 1, fit more in and 2, kerb the smell.
I place a layer of newspaper in the bottom and dry solid waste in the bottom to stop it sticking which does work. I really hate the wheelie bins not pleasant at all

  • Use a brush shaft to aggrevate the rubbish at the bottom with when the water and bleach is in it then perhaps get wheelie bin liners?

Jays fluid might do the trick.. luckily we have a bin for food alone , food is wrapped in newspaper but I still clean it out each week with Jays and the hose...

Just googled bin cleaners, but nothing in my area really - epsom surrey. I'll hold my nose and have a go myself - it won't be for another week now when they empty it.

Use wheelie bin liners, not strictly money saving but compared to getting the cleaners in or the aggro of cleaning it yourself is worth it. I clean mine out usually once a year and could probably eat my dinner out of it. ;) To clean it properly you really need a pressure washer.

I Pressure Wash mine once a month - bit messy but I have 3 bins - green waste/normal and bottles and cardboard - I am too stingy to pay £2.50 a bin!

I Pressure Wash mine, also three ( nextdoor) neighbours .
If you go to the trouble of getting the power washer out , worthwhile to do a few!
