Washing Machine from Comet - be aware of how they will treat you.

I bought a washing machine from Comet on the 3/4/10. It ran ok until the 19/4/10 and I called them up. Can you fix my machine. Yes, but not for 12 days.

I said ok and I wish I hadn't. We cancelled that job and the machine seemed to sort it'self out. Then the movement started again, it was across the floor so we phoned Comet.

They couldn't send an engineer out for 7 days. 1 Week. We have small children, one who is potty training. Off I go to find people to do the childrens washing.

He came, found that the drum had completely come off it's springs, righted it and watched a spin cycle and went off.

Within 15 minutes this machine filled up with water way over the round door and then relaxed and dumped it whilst flashing H20 at us.

Comet 'Sorry we can't come until Wednesday. Well they came today and fixed a hose and watched a cycle with towels ( they said we overloaded) so we did 2 towels. All good. He went and the drum has now fallen off it's hinges again.

What would you do?

I feel beaten with this so anyone who wants to beat me up on this, go for it, I just want to burst into tears.

are comet sending their engineer or is it the machine manufacturer engineer,if it is comet then dont bother with them.
get the manufaturer to send an engineer and give them a chance to repair it,should they fail to repair the problems then i would be pushing for a refund/replacement

H20 is a vacuum switch error, not uncommon for it to become disconnected.
If you take the lid off the top of the machine, you will see a round component that should have a clear tube attached to it - reattach the tube and it will work.

You need to contact the manufs..not Comets dummies.

The machine is not fit for purpose. Phone Comet up and tell them you want a replacement under the sale of goods act. They will try and weasle their way out but don't take no for an answer, and don't be fobbed of with them saying its the manufacturer's fault - it is Comet's responsibility to replace the machine.

I wish you luck with that, comet don't believe that the sale of goods act applies to them in its current state, i had a major issue with a hoover that was faulty recently, and it was still within its warranty, i gave up in the end and threw it in a skip!!

When my brand new (3 days old) Indesit washer went bang, I called Indesit direct (the number on the sticker inside the door) and they gave me something called an 'uplift code'. I then called the retailer (not Comet) who brought me a new one and took the broken one away.

I don't remember having to use the words 'not fit for purpose' but would have had I needed to. It was quite a good service.

Small Claims court mayfocus their tiny minds a bit more...

Having said that, I would never, ever buy anything from Comet because they don't give a t0ss about after sales service.

Ok, so I tried simulating crying down the phone, they are now sending someone out on Monday. It will be 3 weeks. I have tried being firm, but they just simply ignore what you are telling them and there are lengthy silences and you have no choice but to end the call.

I really really want to let everyone know that you really are taking a chance buying something you need on a daily basis from these people. I know they are cheap and I really wish I had gone to John Lewis as I normally do. For stuff you simply cannot do without I would not recommend them.

I tried calling hotpoint and although they were very nice, they simply told me to deal with comet for the first year.
