Moral Dilemma -Should I give them the money?

Let's get serious here for a moment, this is NOT theft. The OP has clearly paid for the car. The business selling the car doesn't understand how to put the payment through - that does not make this theft by any means!
Granted OP you can't spend the money - it's legitimately the seller's and you have spent it.
However the fact that you've noticed it and have given it thought about the potential impact it could have on the business - it would be the right thing to do to let them know about it now and pass on the advice the bank gave to you about the authosiation key.

It might not be theft specifically but the dealership would have no problems taking the OP to court to get them to pay the money, if it came to that. You are just arguing semantics. Pay the money OP.:www: :: MFi3 ::

The dealership could NOT successfully take the OP to court, they would be laughed out. The OP has PAID. The dealership are the ones who need to accept the payment by inputting the authorisation key into their systems.
As I said, it would be a good idea to let the dealership know that - they probably haven't realised.

Supposing they tried to take OP to court - how would they prove that they have 'paid'?:www: :: MFi3 ::

I would hope they got a receipt to be honest! Plus the bank would no doubt back them up, given they have a record of the payment being requested and the bank themselves sending the authorisation key.
I'm so shocked by all the comments of theft and being taken to court. In fact, I don't even think the OP is legally required to chase up with the dealership - though imho they should out of common courtesy.

It's truly amazing what people will do to justify "thriftiness".
And also amazing how many internet lawyers appear in threads like these.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

I am on the whole a fairly honest person,
Yeah - Obviously !!
My dad is self employed and if someone did this to him or me I would be going bananas! £700 is a lot of money to me, but I know its a lot of money to them too.
So what makes you different that you think you can do this to them?0 -
just give the guy a call and let him know that you are planning on closing the account - of course you arent - that money will be completed and closed very quickly..0

You know the old saying " what goes round comes around" .0
