I got one from Barclays when I was 16, it was a £50 cheque card too! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Not all places take electron and many petrol stations wont. When we went into Lloyds bank last week with a card query the adviser recommended having a visa debit card instead, as the electron was 'old and dated' and would be gradually phased out. He said more and more places would be excluding them.
debt free...yippee

Ironic that acceptance is getting better just as banks are phasing them out.
Electron has been issued, and widely accepted, in all countries other than the UK for years.
In Australia Visa have an "all acceptance" policy meaning that if the card bears the Visa logo in any form then the retailer must accept it (be it Visa Debit, Delta, Electron, etc etc)0 -
I wouldn't take what Lloyds said to heart.
I know that they are phasing them out, but i was told a number of different reasons for this...
A cheeky lady from their card centre informed me that "they could only be used in person" and not over the phone/internet. I said that I chose it to use on Ryanair as its the only Debit card they dont charge for.
I dont see any reason that shops would stop taking it, as other banks still issue them and they are big elsewhere e.g. Scandinavia. Some shops take JCB cards, and I don't think any bank here issues them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Shops aren't going to stop taking it, but I doubt the ones that don't take it will start taking it, if banks are going to phase it out.
Going to open an Under 19s account with Lloyds anyway, but I think I'll keep my account with HBOS so that I can avoid charges with Ryanair/etc
I'm going to need a larger/second wallet at this rate0
