vise electron

Can you use a visa electron exactly the same as a visa debit card ?

  • Technically, yes.

In reality, it depends - some retailers won't accept Electron, even if they accept 'normal' Visa. When shopping online, I've found that even if Electron isn't offered as a payment option you can choose Visa and it will work fine :D

Personally, I never had any problems using my Visa Electron card anywhere...

    Hope this helps!!

EDIT: By the way, I think most banks set a combined limit on cash withdrawals and card spending at £100 per day on Visa Electron cards, whereas normal Visa debit cards will allow £300 per day cash withdrawals and unlimited spending (provided you have the funds in your accout)

May be worth double-checking that if it's of importance; I have a (non-UK issued) Electron card that normally allows daily withdrawals of close to £300 equivalent of available cash (with a flat fee charged per withdrawal, as here it's on foreign turf)...HTH
  • I had one and the only problem was that it wasnt a cheque guarantee card which was a problem when was at the vets and i couldnt use it in certain shops.

I opened a a&l young workers account years ago and it was an electron car they offered i realised that some petrol staions would not take this card and as i drive i needed it for this. So i closed the account. To be honest i think most places will take it just didnt work out for me. Also the service and attitude of the staff at my local a&l branch put me off them all together.

No. Cash at about £250 and card at whatever you have in your account

Bank of Scotland let me take £350/day at ATM and debit card transactions full balance of account with my Visa Electron.

Not had a lot of trouble using it, Lowestonweb and Tesco online wont take it though.

(Never got anything more than £40 in there though :()
  • I have a visa electron card with the Halifax and I've only ever had one or two problems ordering online with it. Most companies except it fine in store and online.
  • the only prob I suppose now is soon you can't use the halifax or bank of scotland branches if you have a visa electron card - all ATM, telephone and internet instead. so maybe worth upgrading your account whilse your at it

EDIT - have found out that not every branch will do this. not the smaller ones

    WHAT?!

If they tell me I can't use branch because I have Visa Electron, I'll be closing both of my accounts.

Don't see how that is possible because I can do transactions over the counter without my card.............
