I had my first baby in February and was planning a HB. I laboured at home in my own birth pool (amazing btw!)
Your pool appears twice in the same money saving thread SJ ;) must be a fab one :D

I'm due to have my 3rd baby at home very soon. Going by the feelings of it probably within the next week or so I reckon.

My first HB was hard fought. My GP told me that my area didn't do homebirths. The first midwife I seen told me a scare story about a baby who died after his mother refused to go to hospital when her HB was going wrong. Thankfully I got a good MW later on who backed me fully and helped me organise it. I had a big corner bath at the time so spent most of my labour in there. It was a bit more hectic than planned, but that's because my "hurt back" turned out to be labour :rotfl:

My second HB was in a birthing pool in my dining room. For a while we thought I was going to have to transfer in as the G&A ran out. Thankfully DD2 decided that when she was coming she was coming so it was a relatively short labour.

You don't need lots of special equipment, a decent lamp or a plastic sheet and some towels. I had a prescription for pethidine, but didn't use it in the end.

I'm looking forward to giving birth and being able to go to my own bed and get comfortable on my own sofa. I can never, ever sleep in hospitals as it's too light and the idea of not being able to sleep at all after labour just fills me with horror!

I wouldn't recommend a woman ignore proper medical advice against a HB, but if the only reason you are "not allowed" (which is a myth btw, you have a right to one) a HB is because of staffing issues or scare stories then I would say fight for it. It's a brilliant way to give birth and I do recommend it to everyone (most women don't even realise it's an option).
