I understand why your mum is worried but I heard everyone will be sent for to be medically assessed ' I am currently on DLA ( but did not have to go to court for it ..is it the same benefit ) I understand why the government has to have everyone assessed it is because a lot of people are abusing the system( I have even seen some people getting severe disability allowance because they are supposed to be unable to work ..but are working ' riding bikes' able to walk to the city center and back ( it's a good 4 mile there and 4 mile back ) digging gardens plastering walls you name it they can do it .So it's the fault of these greedy people who have fiddle jobs and claim DLA at the same time' if it was not for these people it would be easier for your sister and the rest of us people who need help to get it .0

It's the side effects with respect to daily mobility and care needs that determine whether or not you can get the benefit (medication doesn't come into it either, just the effects on daily living.)
Medication does come into it - it does ask on the form what you take, how often and any problems you have whilst taking it.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

For a person to qualify for Disability Benefits in the 1 st place they have had to have numerous Medicals initially. As with so many others i have Indefinate period of benefits. My condition is "Degenerative" & can only get worse!
Since i first claimed Benefits some 15yrs ago, my pains have increased, as, have the amount of Medication that i need. I am all for weeding out those that clearly cheat the system, but, with Disability claimants having an already rigid Medical test before they qualify for benefit, i think the Covernment are just being vindictive? After all, the Governments OWN figures show that 0.06% of Disability Benefits claimants are "false"?
My worry is that genuine claimants will be disqualified from benefits? with possibly having to go to appeal etc! a worry that any genuine claimant does NOT need!0 -
You dont have to have a medical to claim Disability Living Allowance - some claims are passed without medicals. (although you will have to have a medical in the future from 2013)0

But many mobility problems for those over 65 are the ageing process.
My husband has rheumatoid arthritis , heart disease and COPD which combine to give him extremely poor mobility.
Nothing whatsoever to do with the ageing process. Just unfortunate to know next to nothing about benefits and what was available before he was 65. And if it is the ageing process why is mobility DLA not stopped when a claimant reaches 65? If people are expected to work until they are 68 then this cut off point will need to be later.0 -

Because their mobility problems were there already, therefore, not age related? That being said, someone on here told me (bearing in mind I'm 21 and was born with these problems) that my eyesight is due to age.:rotfl:Sealed pot challenge #232. And I disagrre with your figures. Not from any statistics I know of, but from my "degree in life". ?????
I will bet you that 25% of claims are false . My worry is that the prats that run this this sytem will identify the wrong 25%, go figureI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
