What tariffs are you on? is it business or home access? anyone here on a home premium package? I only ask because i've just signed up with them again in my new house and i rang to check they hadn't changed their 'truly unlimited' policy (FUP only being if you're 'disrupting the network') and i was explicitly told that the only FUP was as previously stated... the unlimited policy is quite important with 6 students with 6 laptops all using VoD like its going out of fashion...0

FUP is only enforced on Access
all LLU products - do whatever you like0 -
When o2 or any ISP monitor your usage can they see what your downloading? So basically what people are saying that O2 unlimited service is not unlimited? limited to 40GB only? I read on another thread guys been downloading excess of 200 GB for years without problems? Confused. Does the o2 terms of service mention about 40 gb limit isnt that against the law if they don't mention it?
Also, if your in a 12 month contract and they cut you off do they still tell you to pay the remaining 10-11 months of your broadband? Anyone been successful is getting their decision with o2 disconnect overturned by complaints department?
Thanks.0 -
1) Unless the traffic is encrypted most ISP's can see what you are downloading - most of them won't care what it is as long as it doesn't affect the network
2) It has a maximum limit of 40GB/month - though they say they would prefer if it was even less than this around 10/20GB
3) Either he is a) on LLU b) got away with it before they started enforcing the FUP on access
4) The service still states unlimited on the sign up page (https://www.o2broadband.o2.co.uk/packageDetails.do?productId=133) but the FUP page states 40GB nowHow much should I cut my broadband use? Most O2 customers use less than 10GB a month. Aim for that and you’ll be okay.
O2 Home Broadband is unlimited. Why are you telling me to use less?
We don't set a limit on how much you can use each month. Most people use a different amount each month. But if we've asked you to cut back, it's because you’re consistently above the monthly average. And you’re regularly slowing other people down.Because of this, and the fact that we want to be open and honest, we are changing our package and setting a fair usage policy at 40GB. This is over 10 times an average customer’s usage and for 90% of all Access customers it will mean no change to how they use the service. It will, however, mean a better experience for all as very high users will be reducing their usage. For customers who go over the 40GB limit, we will contact them and discuss ways to moderate their use.
if you go over it one month you get a warning - if you go over it a 2nd month they cancel your service
I think according to the t&c's you are supposed to pay the restbut O2 will most likely just let you go and not make you pay it I can't guarantee this though
I doubt complaints would help0 -
O2 have told me they are capping my speed at 1mb because of heavy users, despite me not being one of them.
They have also told me they are capping everybodys speed on access between noon & midnight.
What a bunch of con artists.0 -
The limit is now max 20GB for new customers - but I have heard of it being applied to old customers aswell0

This is interesting because I'm with BT at the moment on their unlimited oprtion 3 and I had no idea what my download per month was. But I'm looking to change supplier (son going to uni) and apparently our last month was 42Gb and it has been as high as 68Gb. BT have never contacted me to say lower your usage.
Our average should fall by 90% once 18 year old son leaves home."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
This thread is of great interest to me as I'm moving to 02 from BT and have taken the unlimited option. I was quoted 200GB as the fair use limit, which struck me as rather high;).
Can someone please explain in non-technical terms what LLU and FUP means? I believe we are in a bundled exchange, but I'm not sure.0 -
LLU is Local Loop Unbundling - an isp (internet service provider) installs their own equipment into a BT exchange so they can provide their own broadband services without having to touch BT's network. So this means someone like O2 can provide their best products without being restricted by BT and having to pay BT to use their equipment. So non-LLU operators on your exchange basically pay BT to use BT's Wholesale ADSL product and re-sell it as their own, therefore the operator is restricted as to how fast the line speed is and how much you can download - hence O2's access package having restrictions on their "unlimited" package.
Sky are probably the best example of this - if they have LLU on your exchange then you can get their broadband for free if you take sky talk etc, yet if there is not a Sky LLU on your exchange then they can only offer what they call "Connect" and charge £17 per month and restrict your usage. This is because Sky have to pay BT to use BT's equipment on the exchange and add on their own margin too.
In laymans terms - get a broadband operator on an LLU service if you can.

If you have been offered any O2 service other than Access, then your exchange is LLU for 02. There is no 'unlimited' option, all three LLU tariffs are unlimited subject to FUP. But the FUP is not enforced at all on LLU, so I doubt that you'll be limited to 200GB.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
