some SATA raid controllers only show the drive when you go in to config the raid in the raid/controller bios if raid mode is set and as such are hidden from bios till raid is turned off .0 -
Good point. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

you need to go in to the bios and change the sata controller from enhanced/ICHI/RAID mode to compatible/IDE mode or you need to make a sata driver disc with the sata controller drivers on a floppy disc if using windows xp or usb memory stick for windows vista or 7
In IDE mode the install disc will be able to see the drive.
So how would a failed drive change BIOS values.0 -
These settings have a habit of getting changed. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

You need to boot up with a Windows install disk .. if you have one ..
Here's as good a guide as any I think ... http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/fix-mbr-xp-vista/ ..
If you haven't got an original disc , you can download a 'Vista Repair Disk iso' and boot from that instead!0 -

Maybe ... I thought it might be worth a try.
Alternatively you could try hooking it up to another machine using one of these ..
http://www.startech.com/item/USB2SATAIDGB-USB-to-IDE-SATA-Adapter.aspx .. I use one of these ..
http://www.kenable.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1353 ... this one recommended by Toxteth O'Grady in another post ..0 -
You still haven't said if you've tried it in another machine/on a different sata port/controller/etc.They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

"Drive HAD errors on it, errors were "fixed" by hdd regenrator, drive no longer seen. "
drive has been tested on everything but a new machine. SATA is NOT the problem, the cables are not the problem, the problem is with the drive.
"its a problem with the HD, and I need to find a way to see it. If I can see it I can try and fix it. POST is trying to find it, I can tell by the amount of time taken to POST."0 -
Well this is the first we're hearing about what you actually HAVE done to ascertain what the problem is, and considering your assertion that it WAS the MBR, which was entirely wrong and couldn't have been the problem, It was fair enough to suggest you try these other things.
You could still clarify what you've tried, but I'll assume that our "everything but a new machine" is the same as your "everything but a new machine".
Drive is knackered, at the minimum the PCB need replacing. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
