Sata hd not recognised in BIOS

Sata hd not recognised in BIOS

MBR problem.

Need to get access to the drive to fix, but as its not appearing in BIOS then how do I go about this.

(This is not a problem with MB/BIOS/cables etc etc etc its a problem with the MBR on the HD)

MBR on the HDD has absolutely nothing to do with the hard drive being seen in the BIOS. If the motherboard is using a dedicated SATA controller, it is quite possible that it doesn't show in the BIOS but does get seen during POST by the SATA controller which then reports to the BIOS.

You don't need to go into the BIOS to sort a problem with a HDD MBR. Just boot up with a repair disc and use that. You'll either need to include SATA controllers on the disc or use one with them built in like Vista/Win7.
  • drive isn't seen on POST, drive isn't seen using windows install disk.

Drive HAD errors on it, errors were "fixed" by hdd regenrator, drive no longer seen.

Then it seems that the drive was on its way out anyway, or perhaps the sata port/controller/cable/power supply is at fault. Definitely not an MBR issue.

Download diagnostic utilities from HDD makers website and burn as a bootable CD.

Check that it still passes the drive diagnostics (if poss in another PC to rule out mobo controller issues), then select "delete MBR" or equivalent option, then create new partition table and format it.

The drive isn't even recognised by the controllers. Diagnostics discs won't do a thing with it, because they won't see it either.

    As stated here

its a problem with the HD, and I need to find a way to see it. If I can see it I can try and fix it. POST is trying to find it, I can tell by the amount of time taken to POST.

All the datas backup up, just prefer not to write the drive off just yet.

Have you tried it in a different sata port, with a different sata cable, etc?

Drives are so cheap, its not worth putting the effort in. You need to establish if its the motherboard controller or the hard drive though. If its the hard drive, just junk it.

you need to go in to the bios and change the sata controller from enhanced/ICHI/RAID mode to compatible/IDE mode or you need to make a sata driver disc with the sata controller drivers on a floppy disc if using windows xp or usb memory stick for windows vista or 7

In IDE mode the install disc will be able to see the drive.

That shouldn't matter though, the bios would still see the drive.
