The £450 increase does not even compensate pensioners for the loss of the 10% tax band, for which the under 65 tax payers received £120.
The £450 increase instead of £1000 is a further insult.
Is it fair? Will there be demonstrations on the streets of London?
Only two letter answers beginning with N.

In 2008/09 the age allowance was increased by £1480 which was about £1180 above inflation giving the over 65 taxpayers about £236 extra which about made up for the loss of the 10% rate band.
But, yes by increasing the PA above the indexed amout
the differentials have been eroded so the over 65s are not as well off as they used to be. I'm sure if Jack Jones were still here there would be more pensioner demonstrations on the streets of London but perhaps they are all too well off now to bother.
Never forget that these figures are not yet law and if the coalition falls on thursday they might never be.
The only thing that is constant is change.
