Have you spoken to the jobcentre yet? They may be able to help with at least some of the cost.

Another option would be to arrange a mid-month start date (assuming pay is at the end of the month). That way, you just need to find 2 weeks' worth of ticket money before you get paid.

Hi, daughter has been offered job and is same situation financially.

Payday loan is out of question because you have not started to work there yet. Your bank might help, but probably not. Doubt whether you will get a crisis loan from the job centre but your last JSA payment might cover for some of the period until you get paid. Bank of mum and dad might be able to help but if not you may have to do what my daughter is doing, she is working in a bar in the evenings to raise some cash and is also selling loads of stuff on ebay. You would be surprised how stuff sells on ebay and it can add up.

I personally wouldn't ask my new employers for a hand out to get to work, for me that would be too embarrasing, companies nowadays are of the opinion that you are lucky to have a job and your financial problems should not be theirs.

You really should take the job, you will have this problem whatever job you are offered, unless you get offered a job next door and they pay you daily.

    Good luck
