Unemployed and been offered a job i cant take! ;(

Hi,
im a 23 year old male living at home with my parents. ive been on jobseekers for about a month now and really actively seeking work.
Today i got offered a job, quite a good one with good wages and benefits. SO whats the problem i hear you say..
Well the problem is i dont drive, so il have to take the train to work. A monthly train ticket costs about £200, fine if i had a steady income, but i have to work a full month before i get a wage and even that will be smaller than usual. I have no savings or money due, therefore no way to get my employment.
Is there any form of help i can get from my local benefit office? a loan or something would result in me signing off, thats got to be a good thing..
Help please ;((((((

Does the employer do season ticket loans? Some companies will pay you x amount so you can pay one and then take the money back over a certain number of months interest free.0

i dont think so and i dont want to start with that impression.. i cant find any help online on any benefit sites.. dont want to let this job slip through my fingers ;((0

You could start with weekly tickets as opposed to a monthly one (a safeguard if they were to let you go 2 weeks into your probation period if this don't work out).
You say you live with your parents, can they not help you for the first month? If you're going from dole money to a good wage, what's the problem paying back £200 after the first month? You probably don't have money outgoings as you still live at home.
Don't let a good opportunity go to waste. Good luck.0 -
Speak to the Job Centre? Maybe they could help you out?
Family/friends etc? for a small loan until you get paid?
Anything you can sell on ebay? if you pay for the ticket week by week you could raise the amount for each week until payday?
Even stuff like gold jewelery is worth selling if it means you can get back on the job front. Those stalls in most town centres will buy your gold and give you cash.
Sorry, I can't think of anything else...
When would your start date be? What about a temp job for a week if you have time, agencies tend to pay weekly..9/70lbs to lose

If it is a job that you see progressing into better options for you later on, then i would ask your parents for the first months train fair, at least it would get you on the job ladder, if its a good company with decent salary and benefits then i would go for it.
You may find waiting for something local, may not be beneficial for you longterm0 -
When would you be starting- beginning of the month or mid month ? Would weekly tickets be easier to finance rather than a full month in one go?
Quite honestly if the job centre can't suggest anything and your family/friends can't lend you some it then rather than lose the job it may be worth talking to the company and explaining-after all they know you've been out of work. Better to be a little embarassed than to lose a job you both want and need.
Old mobiles would raise some cash too in addition to the ideas above.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
my parents work and live on minimum wage.. After bills and outgoings they manage to live on £50/week between them.. a weekly ticket is a good idea but still need to gather the funds.. my family went through a hard time finacially so most of the ideas you guys have stated ive already done to help out.. il try asking my local job centre.. start date is Monday0

Go on Monday at the very least!! Make an excellent impression!! and then if you can do nothing else I'm sure the company will want to help you out and sub you til payday. Chin up, you can do this!!9/70lbs to lose

Whats your JSA been spent on?
Surely you could keep the last one to pay for a week or so then ask for an advance until payday.
Its very common.0 -
