Given how much better off your parents will be when you're working and can bring a proper income into the house, surely they'll be able to make some sacrifices for a week or so to get you started? It would seem very short sighted of them not to.

Get the Job Seekers to do a wellbeing comparison - that will prove how much better off you will be.

The Job Seekers gave me information on Crisis Loans so perhaps they would do that for you in this case. Arrange an appointment with an advisor at the jobcentre and ask them how to handle it - perhaps they will have other solutions for you.

Also speak to the employer and see if they could front you an advance for the travel tickets until you get paid? Unlikely to work but worth a try I would think.

i dont think so and i dont want to start with that impression.. i cant find any help online on any benefit sites.. dont want to let this job slip through my fingers ;((

What impression? (except one of lack of initiative perhaps?) They almost certainly know you are currently unemployed.

If they don't offer season tickets, ask for an advance on wages to buy the ticket to get you to work. They'll understand.

Do you have any friends or family with a credit card who would be willing to put your train ticket on it as long as you pay them back at the end of the month.

Hmm. When I was 23 and desperate to go to work, I found a job which could quite rightly be called a dream job. A major downside - it was in another town, and so far away that I would need to stay overnight. I didn't NEED the job (had a husband to support me) but I wanted it so much I went for it. It was part-time so I basically lived away from home, renting a room for 2 nights a week and commuting 3.5 hrs by train (one-way). Needless to say, I barely had 30% of wages left but I thought it was worth it. 6 months on, my husband was offered a position in the town close to my job and we moved.

I cannot believe somebody at 23 and unemployed is considering turning down a job over not having £200 pounds immediately. You need to grow up if you think that it is a huge problem - get a credit card or an overdraft for 1 month, for God's sake!

I have to agree, i dont think your thinking hard enough! You do realise they can cut your JSA if you dont take a job that you can do also?!

Go for it! Just ask everyone you know if you could borrow the money.

If I was offered the job (Im 23 and unemployed) I would beg to anyone to borrow enough for a week. Or sell on Ebay or use a credit card!

you could always try zoopla or whatever it is or if really desparate provident or one of the other doorstep lenders, yes the interest would be high but I think if you pay it off early it can be reduced, or a credit card with vanquis (I think they will give one to anyone-they gave one to me asnd my credit was really bad)

Crisis loans from the Job centre are not awarded for travel expenses of any kind... But get down there and ask them what help they can give you... They will be more helpful to finally get someone into work then have them keep coming in to sign on...

dont dismiss it cos of money... If it comes to it would a payday loan be abel to help?

A payday loan would do the job, if you go via quidco you can get £40 cashback from paydayuk, £200 will cost £50 in interest so it will really only cost you £10 to borrow it
