I'm sure the Jobcentre do hardship loans and can help with travel. I've heard someone going on about it in my local
jobcentre.Trying to spread calmness, understanding and optimism on MSE

The jobcentre do have an adviser discretionary fund which you could ask about, not sure if they would fund a whole month but maybe a week.0

Yeah that's one of the things ADF is for IIRC.0 -
Well done for finding a job
How far is it? £200 must be about £10 a day return so not too far to cycle perhaps? Could you borrow a bike?
My son cycles to work. At first it took him 43 minutes each way but he has got it down to 38 minutes ad got fitter too! I'm not sure of distance. I hope you work it out.Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
Hi,
im a 23 year old male living at home with my parents. ive been on jobseekers for about a month now and really actively seeking work.
Today i got offered a job, quite a good one with good wages and benefits. SO whats the problem i hear you say..
Well the problem is i dont drive, so il have to take the train to work. A monthly train ticket costs about £200, fine if i had a steady income, but i have to work a full month before i get a wage and even that will be smaller than usual. I have no savings or money due, therefore no way to get my employment.
Is there any form of help i can get from my local benefit office? a loan or something would result in me signing off, thats got to be a good thing..
Help please ;((((((
Or worst case scenario - an agreed overdraft or bank loan? For small amounts some banks will agree if you have a confirmed offer letter and start date. The daftest thing to do is to let this stand in your way - jobs don't grow on trees and you obviously think this is an opportunity.0 -
Jump the barriers and travel by toilet class.
Hitchhike.
Is using the bus an option?
Part train/part bike0 -
I think there's some car-share websites0

I am sure the jobcentre would by your ticket ...............
Best of luck in your new job.Not Again0 -
Congratulations on getting a job!
As you have only been signing on for only a month i doubt it that the jobcentre will help, But you can always ask you've got nothing to lose. You could always apply for a crisis loan, But you wont get any this instantly.0 -
Course you can take it.
Get a week's ticket, then ask for an advance or scout round and see if anyone can give you a lift for fuel money for a fortnight.....and then use the advance [if you can't find a lift] to buy a fortnight's ticket, by then it should just about be payday.
Failing the above working out, a small overdraft for 2 months should see you clear....don't go turning jobs down in this day and age!0
