For 6 months, netbook at home has done everything I have asked of it, but recently firefox has started giving me an "Server Not Found" error message when I try to access certain websites. (not dodgy ones!!!! the https://www.tes.co.uk forum, for instance)
.
I've tried using Internet Explorer instead, but the same happens.
Don't think it's necessarily the computer, as other laptop in house (Apple Mac)displays the same error message when I try it.
Netbook has windows XP. I have Microsoft Security Essentials running - but it used to work without problem.
Talk talk wireless modem not new. But it doesn't seem to like some of my websites these days. Any ideas, anyone?

It looks like a DNS problem with your ISP. You could try to change the DNS in your router to the OpenDNS ones.0 -
Or try flushing dns.
Click Start, Run (Hopefully its there)
Type
cmd
Press enter
In the black window type
ipconfing/flushdns
Press Enter
Then close the black window when it's done its thing.
Just flushes out your dns. See if you run into the issue again.0 -
Thanks for suggestions - flushing dns didn't do it, but the dns comments gave me a lead and on checking the TalkTalk members forum, I got instructions for - an was brave enough to try! - changing the primary and secondary dns numbers to the google ones.
And it worked!!!! I'm now a happy surfer again!!!!
Thanks for the heads up.0 -
I'm having the same problems on the same site (https://www.tes.co.uk) :-(
I'm also with Talk Talk so going to try some of the suggestions!0 -
Hi,

So, a known problem already discussed on TalkTalk members forum. No fix from TalkTalk, but a workaround known to forum members.I'm having the same problems on the same site (www.tes.co.uk) :-(

Don't be a waste of space, just get your tech people to fix it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Go to command prompt and try to ping any website
like - ping www .google.com and see what happens.0 -

As the OP states, they went to the TT forum and got it working - so actually a sensible and accurate post containing *the right answer*.0 -
Not quite. Yours rather eclipsed it....:rotfl:

The forums contain a workaround. The fix is in the hands of TalkTalk. But if you really want to derail making the point that TalkTalk should just fix a well known issue, carry on. I don't think that your contribution is the least bit useful to TalkTalk customers.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
