Budget - tougher for DLA claimants

You SS OT should provide you with a trolly to support your needs alongside the other household aids that your need, they do have strange ideas mind, you MUST have a perching stool if you want one or not!
A trolly is a easy thing to get from OTand fast but any other more useful aids might take a while but its worth having the assessment ASAP to get yourself on the waiting list.
I've never been referred to OT, unfortunately. I have been assessed by SS, but the woman who saw me decided I didn't need any help because I managed to get up from my chair and make her a drink without my stick - problem there being I had been resting for the last day and a half to have enough energy to deal with her at all! *sigh* And I do have a stool that I use to do things in the kitchen, along with a folding chair for the shower - not very safe, but makeshift.
My last doctor made musings about referring me for a proper OT assessment, but never got around to it. I am still waiting for my medical records to reach my current doctor (moved across city in April). She says she wants to hold off making any further decisions until she's seen them - this despite my having come into an appointment with her with both my arms in slings from dislocations on the same day, and her prescribing me morphine. I don't know how people think, sometimes...Homosexual, Unitarian, young, British, female, disabled. Do you need more?0 -

There are provisos on your income and the number of hours you care but, if you fit these criteria, it's automatic, you don't have to be assessed or investigated.0 -
Now to get some of you moaning, I get DLA, I work full time, my earnings are very decent, I drive a decent car and so does my wife, we have a very happy lifestyle, I claim DLA because I am disabled and DLA is not just for unemployed but for any disabled, it is meant to provide monies to enable you to live as near a normal lifestyle as an able bodied person without incuring extra costs. I have paid over the years a substantial amount into the health service here and have also eased it in earlier years by using private as well as contributing the normal amount, I have ensured out future is provided for without ever needing the state for old age care, so why should I not get what I am entitled to? it is my right, I have earned it I have paid into it. I will also defend anyones right here to claim DLA if they are entitled to it even if they don't need it, although I am not in the UK I do pay in tax each month about 4 times the average DLA claim, if I was paying UK tax it would be double that, so for me I don't mind a disabled person having some of that money, rather that than it go to some work shy scrounger who is not willing to work and by that I do not mean those genuinly looking for work.
BTW just a quick fact, anyone here who's disability includes mobility of either limbs you are all more than likely using daily one of several of my designs if able bodied its a 50/50 chance, so for all those who say disabled people do nothing for society chew on that, also I employ several disbaled people both at the company and working from home, all get a full wage well above minimum and all work a damn site better than a lot of able bodied I have employed.
Edited to add: Trialia, you have a good point about the boiling water issue, I may look into that, there has got to be a better way than a microwave.
my mate that is blind has a kettle that has a fixed tipper on it and fills up the cold water with a plastic jug might help a little, also the travel mugs have a very chunky handle what i have to use x0 -

Carer's Allowance is not automatic if you care for somebody who receives middle or higher rate care of DLA. It is only paid to people who apply for it and meet certain criteria, including earnings of less than £100 a week (as stated by sh1305).
You also need to carry out your caring role for a minimum of 35 hours a week.
You cannot study for more than 21 hours a week (there's a young man from, I think, the South West, who is challenging this - he is a full time student who cares for his girlfriend. I think she has cystic fibrosis or a similarly debilitating condition).
Most pensioners cannot get CA, as it is an overlapping benefit. Some pensioners might be entitled to carer premiums though.

Now the Summer holidays are here, my 10yr old daughter is enjoying helping me get dressed as she keeps telling me I need street cred!
I use my DLA to met cost of 2nd mortgage and run my car. I didn't want to use my mobility element; £50 a week, for a new car as thisnis alot of money. Besides the car I have is in pretty good condition - passed it's MOT today without any problems!
We took out 2nd mortgage to build downstair toilet for me and a conservatory - don't get me started on the Conservatory disaster!
My worry would be that if ATOS are doing the medicals; how badly will they be handled given the fiasco that is the ESA medicals.
PS I have Metatastic Breast Cancer (it's in my lungs). So my lungs are unable to absorb the oxygen I need to function normally. Hence my constant coughing. Also the medication I take causes swelling in the joints and volcanic hot flushes - don't get me wrong - I'm happy to be alive but live in daily pain and i'm thankful that the benefits I receive do allow me to live a fairly comfortable live as the money is well managed and my partner works full-time.
did you not look into geting a disablity grant for adapiting your house x0 -
does any one find the concept of medical tests to see if you are fit to work for such disabillitys as autism or depression pretty hard to see sense in , because i sure do. i mean, there trying to get more people off benefits but into what, i dont see any more job oppurtunities...:(0

I should have learned that one by now, but sometimes if I wait until I've caught up with 10 pages of posts I've forgotten which ones I still need to reply to.
Anyway, that's my excuse ...
