Actually those who might accidentally get killed are the ones who are doing the country a favour. And if they're baby boomers as well, then some out there are going to call it justice too.
Remember, in the New Reality, being old or disabled is a Bad Thing. Even if you're supporting yourself, then your pension or your capital has been "stolen" from your children. Go read David Willets book, "The Pinch" if you need the word of a government minister for it.

I recieve both the high rates of DLA which the mobility was for life when it was awarded as was the middle rate care but I had a supersession on the life time care award to high rate award and my awards now indefinite do to the change in the DLA awards systems that changed life to indefinite and if they change the DLA rules that mean I need a medical, so what?
I am severly disabled and that can only get worse, my awards are safe, as is everyones who cant provide the evidence to back up their claims.
It nothing to worry about.
And, as for being safe - I hope so. But if your case comes up in front of someone who has, on a Friday afternoon, not yet filled their weekly quota of people coming off benefit, then they could decide that they don't believe your evidence, or that your evidence does not prove what you say it proves.
I agree that if you have a well known degenerative disease (like MS), then your case should simply be rubber-stamped. But even people with MS come into contact with people who say, "My friend Mary has MS and she holds down a full time job and brings up 3 kids." The implication being that if Mary can, so can you. 'Taint true, but a closed mind is a powerful tool, if blunt.
Here's hoping those lifetime awards turn out to be too much trouble.

As scarey as today's announcement sounds, it is not worth spending the next 3-4 years worrying yourself even sicker about whether you will be called in for a medical. Coping with any disability is difficult enough without putting yourself under pressure as a result of things that may or may not happen in the future. The fact that it is 3 years away suggests that they want to make changes but really want to see what the response to any proposed changes will be before making any firm plans. This government might not even last until 2013. It seems there is a need for some kind of reform, but putting people under unnecessary stress doesnt seem the right way to go about it.0

FACT ..over 2 million claim mobility high rate DLA....The figure for War pensioners mobility is 14000...fourteen thousand!!!reason being that the medical criteria required for this is much stricter than DLA.I fail to see that there can be 2 million plus who are in need of mobility DLA.The figures are crazy.
Agree, but it has not been mentioned that the higher mobility DLA will be addressed alone- its the whole thing, and many people have little if any mobility issues and its more the care component- stuff thats hard to test for. I have a friend with extreme OCD. She does a great job of covering it up as she looks so organized, but she is actually on a cocktail of drugs and on a waiting list for help. I worry that when they interview her she will not be able to explain how things are and will fail the medical check. She has worked before and wound up very much sicker (eating disorder anorexia) but again, this is not possible to prove. I worry that the need for figures will get in the way of people being interviewd properly and delicatly.0 -

Everyone will be called for a medical from what I see and read. No dates or times have been given but every report states that everyone will undergo a medical test.0 -

The budget report clearly states: The Government will introduce the use of objective medical assessments for all DLA claimants from 2013-14 to ensure payments are only made for as long as a claimant needs them.
It's not a nice thought that at some point in the future anyone on DLA will be called in for a medical assessment but the bigger picture is worrying about it until it happens will make a lot of people worse. The time scale is clear and given the huge numbers involved its not likely to be a quick process given the way the EMA is being handled.
All I was referring to was spend the next few years worrying about it, or put it to one side and deal with it as it comes as nobody can tell what their medical needs will be in 3 years time. One thing you can be sure of is incessant worrying isn't going to help anyone.0 -

!!!!!! I'm getting more irritated with by the minute with this DLA scam, you can also get money because you have gone somewhere you haven't been before? I'm off on holiday in a couple of weeks and I'm scared that my sat nav might break down and I end up getting lost.
Where do I claim?
Two questions spring to mind, if you know you are going to have a panic attack going somewhere unfamiliar, why the flying **** go there. Secondly, exactly how does handing over the taxpayers money actually cure the panic attack?0 -

The simple truth is that there is a need for system which supports those unable to work, but it has to be rigorously policed. I have read through this thread and people claiming range from those with seriously disabilities to people who can't be bothered to get out of bed because they are feeling depressed and have had a bad day, and a guy who wears hearing aids (give me a break, I knew a lady who was almost deaf and still held down a full time job).
The big issue appears to be that many don't actually want to have to justify their position and are worried that the doctor may review their case and stop their payments. The doctors opinion was acceptable to them when they were awarded DLA, but for some strange reason he is subsequently considered incompetent if he actually says they are fit to work - hypocrisy at it's finest.
I have worked with disabled people, including one who couldn't get around without a crutch, but still managed to carry the stationary around and do all the functions of an able bodied man, he has my respect. The people on this board who state that they need DLA to afford takeaways due to depression don't need DLA, they need a reality pill.0
