ILW: I asked a question earlier... can someone claim housing benefit on a house outside their local authority area? Because I thought not. I also thought there were minimum standards a house has to be in order for it to be eligable for housing benefit payments?

I haven't looked into it for quite a while... maybe I'm wrong? In which case I would like to know.

If she had been either a private renter or purchaser, she would have had to adjusted the type of property or area to fit within her means. I cannot see why it should be different for those on benefits, whatever the reason.

Like I say, I can't gossip about this on a forum as it would be inappropriate. All I can say is that I am not a believer in a wide scaled welfare state but at the same time there are reasons to have a safety net in place to help people get out of a hole.

BTW this was a nice middle class family, a Dr and an investment banker. Dr's can be ar ses too.

Don't they call them holiday caravan parks down there icon7.gif

Nope, this is a ''US style'' permanent residence trailer park in the middle of other residential areas of a non tourist destination town.

US trailer parks aren't that much different from our old-fashioned mobile home sites.

If you're claiming housing benefit, you're living there - so it's not outside your local authority area.

As for standards.... not really. Just the legal requirement for a gas safety check if there's gas and electrics need to be 'safe'.

Are higher rate taxpayers going to get struck twice? Okay, we will benefit from the increase in the personal allowance but I thought this was being combatted with the increase in NI above £20k.

However, this did not get a mention in this budget. All I can find is the fact that they are going to reduce the 40% band to take the increase in personal allowance into account..

perfectly reasonable budget. Just about the right level of pain and pretty evenly spread. Should ensure a bit of stability, I including the housing Market. Harnan's response was laughable.

One critiscism is that I'm perfectly happy to take a pay freeze, however, I am disgusted that benefits haven't been frozen.

i think the point in question is if you relocate. i.e. if you receive HB in Chelsea can you move to...somewhere cheaper now HB is reduced.

I liked the budget, I will be worse off but I expected that anyway.

HH is just a joke to me, I will never be able to take her seriously after the government she was part of!

Agree with daddybear more should be done to reduce the benefits culture!
