The first time I saw a trailer park in the UK was in the SW in a largish local town. Been here since I have at least (first year of the Labour government that was, but I'm sure the trailer park will have preceeded that.)

Triple lock for pensions, up with earnings, inflation or
    whichever is greater

    2.5%.

    What do I win?

As I thought, the budget wasn't that bad - not many particular shockers in there. The VAT increase was expected and I think is more or less the only thing that negatively affects me. It'll be very interesting to see how the max of £400 per week LHA plays out. That could be a big hit on some people

You can be working and claim DLA. DLA is not dependent on not being able to work unlike ESA.

He announced a 'new streamlined process' for claiming it... a single form. Maybe I am cynical, but my impression was the single page will contain the question:

"Do your doctors think you are going to die in the next month"?

If the answer is yes, you can claim DLA but it will take two months to process the form.

If the answer is no, then no DLA for you, buddy.

Nowt. You are in Australia, so your pensions won't increase regardless (bad luck!) ;)

i never thought it would be - it's their first budget.
the last thing that you want to do is make yourselves unpopular!!

as usual it's the usual suspects on this board predicting the future and getting it completely wrong.

Remember the Labour party put £51 billion of tax increases in the pipeline in the March budget. National insurance rises by 1% for those earning over £22k next April. So this neutralises the benefit of personal allowances rising by a £1k. With public sector pay freezes this means less disposable income. Also fuel duty has 14p a litre still to flow through over the 4 and half years.

The threshold for higher rate tax has been extended to 2013/14 , so more people will find themselves paying 40% income tax.

There is a squeeze on the way for many.

Like I said at the time it's tough if you live in an expensive area.

I have a story about wife beating and stuff that really isn't suitable for this forum. Suffice to say that the council involved broke the ceiling for housing benefit in order to rehouse in a suitable manner. The rule was that they could only reclaim from Government the max HB and paid the rest from local taxes. I sincerely hope that provision remains available to councils as I wouldn't wish on anyone what happened to her. If she'd had to leave the area because it was expensive she would have lost her support network of friends along with everything else.

If she had been either a private renter or purchaser, she would have had to adjusted the type of property or area to fit within her means. I cannot see why it should be different for those on benefits, whatever the reason.
