    Nope.

The more cynical part of me thinks this may have been a parting 'gift' from when I left Lloyds' employment about 7 years ago.

Hmmm... I may have to chase this up with them myself... how did you approach it with them? Just asked them in-branch?
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

I called them on telephone banking and played dumb slightly, asking why I couldn't see options to upgrade to a 'added value' account (taking pains to state I was just browsing and concerned rather than risking them saying "oh we can do that!" :) ), or open another account, etc. they ended out jumping most of the hoops with collections, with me spending some quality time on hold until they confusedly came back saying "well, they don't know why..."

yeah same, but 'only' 3k. just wish I knew what they'd credit check for - if it's to make sure there's nothing bad I'm fine, but if it's to look for a brimming history of credit accounts it's not...

second ridiculous comment - are all the lloyds cards as difficult as each other to get? prefer the look of the duo if I go for it...

I would imagine that the 3k is what they think you can afford looking at your income and account management. If you have missed payments or have credit with anyone else then of course it's going to affect the amount they think you can borrow. Banks are generally quite comfortable lending to people with well managed current accounts and if they have said you may be able to get up to 3k I think that means they are comfortable with that and wouldn't be concerned if you have a lack of credit history, as long as there isn't negative there.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

yeah that's what I was hoping. I've got a 1500 OD available with them (from ~10 years ago) that I haven't messed around with, so not like I don't have history with them.

3k should be enough as should cover the monthly outgoings & let me just pay it off in full each month. Not really bothered at the limit if it's over 2k.

That is a standard Lloyds preapproval message you have - you should get this without the need for a credit check - just internal scoring.

It must be based on 'throughput', and whether it's your main account, because I have 3 x Vantage accounts maxed out with a total of £21K and my credit card 'offer' has a very low £1,600 limit.

Did it tell you the limit before you hit "apply"?
