Leaving sky for freesat..receiver advice needed

Hi all. hope someone can help a newbie satellite user.
I have had sky HD recently installed in my rented flat...(small-ish sky dish, cables and HDMI, sky hd box linked to my samsung tv).
Cos Sky is so rubbish, i've cancelled my order with them after weeks of frustration.
I have now purchased and installed a Skyline 28207R receiver (basic, with no hdmi, and connected with scart) and gone thro the set up a number of times.
I am able to receive a picutre, but it is poor quality, and pixellated..I got it to Astra E 28.
I am tempted to get an alternative receiver in the hope that things will be b better, but don't want the same thing to happen again..can anyone please help??
I'm uncertain if, because the new receiver will NOT be a Sky one, do I need to therefore get a non-sky dish and non-sky cables??
thanks all.

So.
Sky installed this dish? and you had it running OK on Sky?
Have you added cables or changed the connectors?
Are all channels poor? if not which ones.0 -
yes..
Sky installed the dish (afaik).
When they installed my new box, they had it up and running with a great pic on all channels , SD and HD too.
No cables have been changed at all, but my new Skyline receiver has no HDMI connection, so that is therefore not connected. Also, the new receiver uses a SCART lead (unlike the Sky set-up).
Now, the pixellation is on all channels..tho some are worse that others.
thanks for your help..not sure what to do..should I ditch the skyline box and get something better (and with HDMI connection?)
thanks for your help0 -
Did you keep the Sky HD box or did you have to give it back?Dave. :wave:0

Still got the box...I'm assuming they'll come and pick it up some time?
Not sure if it's possible to use the sky box, as once i'd cancelled with them, i started to receive a message that said 'no signal detected'.
any ideas on whether i should try a neew receiver would be helpful too!
thanks all0 -
Well to answer some of your questions, no the fact it is a "sky" dish and lnb makes no difference.
Without seeing the picture its difficult to tell whether the installation or box is faulty or whether its simply the fact you got used to the Sky box upscaling the SD signals.
Is there not a signal meter built into the box for alignment? they are normally very low tech but can be a reasonable guide.
Maybe the de-installer "tweaked" something when they came to pick up the old equipment
EDIT: Just seen the new post above, you seem to have an issue with the signal.
Either the dish alignment or the cable ends.0 -
Well..they've not yet picked up the old equipment, so the settings are the 'sky' settings still and dish alignment hasn't changed either (('m assuming Sky use the same satellite as any other receiver would..for me, taht is Astra E 28).
If it's the cable ends..is there a remedy for this??
thanks so much for the info!Kurtis_Blue wrote: »Well to answer some of your questions, no the fact it is a "sky" dish and lnb makes no difference.

making F connections
Just check the F Connectors are OK within the property, it possible they have been disturbed some how.
Unless you are very handy with a ladder and spanners I would suggest getting some one in to look at the dish alignment and connections there, maybe the dish was'nt done up as tight as it should have been.0 -
Ok...quick look..F connectors are fine (there are 2). Outside, dish seems to be sturdy and firmly in position.
Do you think that, purchasing a more up-to-date sat receiver with hdmi connection would help resolve the problem??..maybe one with good reviews like a Humax??Kurtis_Blue wrote: »making F connections

First thing to do is connect the Sky box back up and connect it to the TV with a scart lead. This could then eliminate any problem with the dish and connections. If the picture is good. Then swap the boxes without disturbing anything else and if the picture is now crap, then the skyline receiver is at fault.0
