Just to let you know this morning Sainsburys had Schloer down to 99p per bottle (half price). I got a red grape and a white grape for the kids to drink at Christmas. Bet it goes up again nearer Christmas.

This year we are having chicken for Christmas dinner because (a) we all prefer it to turkey (b) Its cheaper (c) It will be well and truly jazzed up with mushroom and sausage stuffing.
I am buying really cheap naff crackers 12 for £1 from poundland and then putting in my own jokes and gifts so they are not so naff.
I buy a cheapish christmas pudding (additive free of course) and just add a little extra alcohol the night before. Home made white sauce with cornflour, sugar and pasterised milk is cheap and very tasty.
Nobody eats christmas cake in our house and very few mince pies get eaten so i will probably just buy a twelve pack.
Nuts with their shells on work out expensive so i get a big bag of mixed nuts that have been shelled from the supermarket. If you get them from the fruit & veg section they are alot cheaper than getting them from the Christmas/baking aisle. Also get them in plenty of time before the prices get whooped up for Christmas.
I make my own Christmas decorations with sweets wrapped in pretty foil paper for the tree along with inherited decorations and baubles.
Christmas booze i get from Lidl/Aldi they do some fab blood orange vodka thats only £4.99 a bottle, some great little dutch beers that are 2.99 for 10 and they do plenty of other cheap spirits too.
Only thing i don't recommend from their is their equivalent to Baileys - tastes really harsh and has a chronic after tastes (think they must add turps or something to it)0 -
Oh gosh they had mince pies in sainsburys today. They also had started getting out all those silly gift box things they have in Boots. It seems to get earlier each year, I was just enjoying the last of the summer. Does anyone else think it is ridiculous and rather sad how soon all the Christmas things appear in the shops?0

Do any of you make your own crackers, and do you have any tips please?
I make mine - cardboard tubes (toilet/kitchen rolls) wrapping paper and snappers. Dead easy. I don't know if i'd explain it well, but i'll try to find a web page link or document for you.

Christmas morning just wouldn't be right without Cranberry muffins! But by Christmas Eve, I'm normally baking my third batch, 'cos they're a December staple in our house, along with the home-made mince pies.
