It is a sad story-poor dog. I take it the friend got over her food poisening ( not very pleasent). It was an accident and that does happen in life when you least expect it. Unless her friend offers to pay, dont ask and risk your friendship. I too have a dog, he was a rescue and is a sweet little yorkshire terrier. He is about ten and going deaf and blind. Whenever we have people round I put him in the bedroom and shut the door. Hey pressto, no accident!0

:(I don't think it should even cross your mind to ask for her to pay. It's your dog, your responsibility, it's not her fault your dog got in the way of the door closing. Maybe you should take better care of your dog. Maybe now it's cost you a packet you will.0

I would not even mention the accident to the friend if she doesn't already know. The dog should not have been allowed to get in her way if she was so ill. The OP's responsibility entirely, imho.
I hope the friend is fully recovered from her ailment.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
