I can assure you that our team members complete screen checks every 20 minutes.
I used to work at Odeon and we never did screen checks midway through a showing. We just relied on customers coming out to tell us if there was a problem.

In hindsight, yeah checking the screens would've been better but we just didn't have the staff to do that.
  • I have a love hate relationship with the cinema. One instance that sticks in my mind is sitting in my correct seat (local cinema does allocated seating) with my boyfriend. There was literally noone else in the cinema. A man came in with a long suffering wife on crutches. He made her climb six rows up by herself and sit in the wrong seats right beside us even though I caught a glimpse of her tickets and they were supposed to be sitting somewhere far away from us with no stairs. They then proceeded to talk loudly and the guy threatened to take my boyfriend outside and beat him up when he asked him to keep it down as he "could do whatever he wanted". He seemed a little unbalanced, there was no doubt in mind that he had started fights for less. Unfortunately for him, he was unaware that we were both cinema employees at that time and we immediately got him ejected with no refund as our bigger more muscly manager took our word for it that he was a customer the place didn't need! :D

A nicer thing that I still remember is the cute adorable kid who announced to us standing with black bin bags at the top of the ramp after a film "MY dad left all our litter back there!!", pointing up at their seats with an accusatory look towards his father. Absolutely class, you should have seen the look on the dad's face as we were all "Oh, did he really??"

But above it all, I just take a chill pill and never get worked up. I guess certain films attract oddballs - like Sex in the city. As for being annoyed at a 12A rated film - get over it, its aimed at kids !

    Chilled man.

The Dark Knight was hardly "aimed at kids" and really shouldn't have been a 12A anyway, imo, but that's beside the point.

I'm an immensely chilled out person, but their behaviour was beyond a joke - taking calls on the phone, making calls on the phone, chatting, laughing - it was when they started watching different videos on their mobiles I lost the plot...We were in the most expensive seats (about £15/pop) because we were looking to the film so much and the stupid little sods entirely ruined the thing for me. They weren't little kids, either - 15 or 16...well old enough to know better.

The other thing that winds me up a little, but I'm used to now, is kids that go in to watch sexy or romantic films with their mates and get entirely embarrassed by what's happening on screen. They don't know how to react to it - and there are no cushions to hand - so they do what any teenage boy would do - make farting noises and giggle...

    So I'm right.

There is a strong correlation between people who watch Sex and the City and people who have far too much time on their hands.

I don't understand why people feel that their taste is somehow superior to everyone else's. You're not Trinny and Susanna, you are not AA Gill, you are not even Kim Newman... (although I doubt very much he sits in the cinema behaving like a yob, should he not approve of the film - don't think he'd last very long in his job if he did).

The issue here is not whether you like the film, it's whether you believe in respecting other people's choice. People trying to enjoy a film that they have paid to see (and maybe even worked to pay for!) - whether it be Brief Encounter, Saw 5465 or a petri dish with slowly-growing bacteria on its surface, the content and your opinion of it is irrelevent.

Only a mannerless pond-creature would think otherwise.

It's not that anyone is declaring SATC2 as any great masterpiece - people are objecting to these low-lives once again treating everyone else as though they are less important than them.

I'm certainly not going to be subserviant to some thuggish teen whose parents were somewhat remise in teaching them how to function as a normal human being.

If you can't behave like a reasonable person, you shouldn't be allowed out in public.

Manners in the cinema are just awful these days. Why can't people turn their phones off rather than checking them every time they get a text message? Is it so hard to keep quiet for a couple of hours? I'm hardly an old codger - I'm in my mid 20s!

That is exactly why I am getting to the stage of preferring watching films at home. I used to see at least one film in the cinema every week, sometimes more (I'm a huge film fan), but now I am seeing more and more in the comfort of my own home.

Increasingly, I am avoiding the large chains (especially Odeon) and am going to smaller independent chains/independents where people act more respectfully.

    Blah....blah....blah.

Some people are way too uptight.

Are you sure it wasn't the stick up your @rse that was spoiling your enjoyment of the film?

    Decent human being = uptight.

    Interesting POV.

Be sure to think of that when you're serving me on the tills next.

PS love the fact you put blah blah, at your clear confusion on seeing words with more than two syllables.

I'm sorry, but this makes absolutely no sense, whatsoever.
