The only way we can change things is to complain. That's why we live in a democracy.

This is an email responce to an email I had sent to head office for Odean Cinemas and my further reply:

    Dear xxxx,

Thank you for your email regarding ODEON Kingston.

I am very sorry to hear that you are becomming increasingly uspet by the behaviour of other's in the cinema. I can assure you that our team members complete screen checks every 20 minutes. During these checks they are on the look out for guests using mobile telephones, making noise and generally disturbing other guests. However I am afraid that some times we are unable to catch guests behaving in this way as we cannot have team members in the screens at all times. I will ensure that your concern is passed onto my team and that they are being more vigilant when completing their checks.

Also thank you for the link you included in your email, it is very intresting and I have shared it with the management team. We will review it on a regular basis.

Once again thank you for your email,

    Kindest Regards,

    Dear

Thanks for your reply. However, in all the years I've been going to Kingston cinema, in whichever screen I am seeing a film, I have never seen a team member coming into the screen to make a check. Now I realise there are 14 screens to monitor which would make it difficult, but often there isn't even a staff member in the corridor outside the screens at the desk. When I was watching The Green Zone a few weeks ago the projectionist hadn't turned the lights off in the screen so I had to go all the way downstairs to the ticket collector to ask her to get the idiotic projectionist to turn off the lights so we could watch the film properly.

My views on 'the cinema experience' are increasingly becoming more common. Which is why pirating videos is also on the increase.

    Regards

    So I'm right.

There is a strong correlation between people who watch Sex and the City and people who have far too much time on their hands.

I finished her sentence for her.

I'd be amazed if they check every 20 minutes.

I got so frustrated watching The Dark Knight that I went proper wolvie-berserker at this group of foreign exhange students "SHUT UP! SHH! BE QUIET!! SILENCE!! ZIP IT!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME!!?". The good news is it shut them up (half of them ran out scared, in fact). The bad news is I had to put up with an usher sat behind me for the whole rest of the film - apparently I was disturbing the film for other members of the audience...:A

It seems to be the empty cinemas that are the worst, you go in, sit down where there is a lot of empty space around you, and you can guarantee just as the film is starting a group will come in and sit right behind you.

My wife and daughter had a similar experience a couple of weeks ago in Odeon Stoke, there were three kids, on their own, in a 12A film, sitting right behind them and constantly kicking the seats. She asked them to stop doing it on several occasions but it made no difference. Of course the staff were useless/didn't care. She did complain and got 2 free tickets but quite frankly we don't want to use them.

If there was only about 30 people and these noisy people were a few of rows in front of you I assume you moved further away from the idiots so it wouldn't have been so much of a problem, failing that did anyone ask them politely if they could quieten down?

When we went to see Avatar there must have been a couple of kids in with their mates who got bored half way through so they started messing about with their mobiles and playing ringtones to each other. After we asked them 4 times if they could stop it I told a member of staff who asked them but as soon as they did it again they got booted out.

If I am in a good mood I find the silly behaviour quite funny. TBH there has not been a decent film in the flix for eons for me to get annoyed about.

The mobile phones going off with silly ringtones can be slightly annoying but thats because someone has forgot to switch it off (i know there are adverts telling you to).

But above it all, I just take a chill pill and never get worked up. I guess certain films attract oddballs - like Sex in the city. As for being annoyed at a 12A rated film - get over it, its aimed at kids !

    Chilled man.
  • Remember once when I joined the RAF a few years back, we all piled in to watch the weeks feature. Assault on Precinct 13. It lasted about 2 minutes before one lauded a comment about using guns.

With words such as Halt, Hands Up ... Bought the house down. Film stopped and we soon had Tom and Jerry on again.

    People Power that.
