did you get any quotes yet? What goes around-comes around0 -
...but it is utter !!!!!!!!.
How would the insurers find out? That data is not passed to them (neither are section 59 notices or any other ANPR marker). They also do not ask at any stage during the insurance process.
I've been pulled several times in my new car, and despite only having it a month and being a young driver i've yet to have threatening letters arrive :rotfl:
(and before you go there... it was showing an ANPR marker as "Stolen" for several weeks).0 -
I'd say try bell insurance, part of the admiral group they were £300 cheaper for me than anyone else.
My Dad as named driver and it's kept on a driveway.
I'm nearly 19 though and have held a license for 20 odd months.
But they were cheaper when I first got insured aswell.War does not determine who is right - only who is left.0 -
Hi all,
yes we have obtained quotes- ouch!!!!
3rd party fire & theft base on a car such as a Suzuki Alta which I think is under or around the 1lt size came out at over £2,380. Crazy.
We fully understand the risks with young drivers and accept that they have to learn but surely this can only encourage drivers not to have insurance(not that we would allow this with our son). He is going on the pass plus and we will encourage him to become advanced a driver as he can to gain valuable experience for safe driving.
We are looking at buying the car in my name as I am not on any car documents as owning any car and then maybe wait a month or so and add him to the policy? Our problem here is that we are a family who always try to be correct and stay within the boundaries but maybe we have to do what we have to do.
Any thoughts on this system? We are aware that we have to use an insurance company who will give named drivers no claims bonuses so we hope this is our way forward as a family.
Thanks again everyone for taking the time and please, the folk who are chomping each others ears of, leave it and move on- get each other a cyber beer!!!:beer:0 -

If you put yourself as main driver on insurance policy and put your son on as named driver, where he is the main driver, it means your policy is void.
Insurers are cutting down on this a lot.
It is called fronting and is illegal.
It is not illegal to put yourself as the owner, and your son as the main driver, although this is rather pointless.0 -

Where you live must have a massive bearing, I was insured on a new golf 1.4 as the registered keeper main driver etc and it was 920 just with my Dad as a named driver, kept on a driveway.
I've never heard anyone's insurance on anything 1.6 or smaller as being more than 1500, even on new cars.War does not determine who is right - only who is left.0 -

The figure of 1200 sounds about right, that's what I paid 5 years ago when I was an 18(ish) new driver on a Fiesta. I had to shop around for that! Try Quinn, Liverpool Victoria and Endsleigh, they always offered relatively good prices when I was young.
About the arguing that has gone on.. unfortunately it was due to someone posting rubbish, and that has to be challenged, but sorry if it derailed your thread a bit.0 -
