I had installed iOS4 on my 3g and couldnt get the location services to switch on for any of my apps, google maps couldn,t find my location nor would my co pilot live application work nor any other of my location based applications wouldn,t work. Once you install iOS4 i dont think you can go back to the prev softwear but i read on the apple support forum if your having problems with your update, reconnect your iphone and click on "restore" I,m doing this right now and hoping that it works

update: just done a restore and still having the same problems. One thing did work, when i click on my photo album now when i click places it now shows me where i took the pics on google maps but when i go to the map app its still showing the message "Turn on location services to allow "maps" to determine your location" Problem is, when i click settings to turn it on location services in switched on but i cant change any of the settings to allow all my other location based apps to access it :mad::mad::mad:

Oddly enough, my google earth app found me??????????

I really hope i find a solution cos i use some of the location apps quite frequently.

you are right, dont know what the other poster is talking about as there is no jailbreak for newer 3GS yet (if you had to use Spirit to jailbreak, it's not yet possible).

I've heard time scales of next week to a few weeks for the 3GS new bootrom to be jailbroken.

there is a bug in the software that deletes the APN settings,go settings,general,network then CDN you will find the boxes are blank google for APN settings then enter them.

o2 settings are
APN mobile.o2.co.uk
username vertigo
password password

once entered do a reset by holding home and sleep buttons until phone turns off and back on again,then you should have your data service back again.

Hi, all those settings are still working, its the location service that i,ve got the problems with.I`ve been on the apple iphone support forum and loads of people are having major problems with this upgrade softwear, a few are having the same problem i have.

Cant even go back to prev softwear but thanks for trying to help :T

I've noticed since installing iOS 4.0 that some of my apps have stopped working properly, eg Tap Farm, Doodle Jump they seem to suddenly close mid game.

Early signs are it is a very unstable update there are loads of people having APN setting problems, some can enter manually some cannot and have to set up as new phone to get working

Also Sky Sports have emailed me to say it isn't compatible with OS 4.0. Get ready for iOS 4.1.

Got this from the apple support forum with regards to the location problem i was having.....hope it works for anyone else having the same prob......

Fixed the Location Services problem (or rather Apple Store guys did).

Go to General > Restrictions (enter Passcode) > switch Location to on.

now its all back to normal.

what's weird is this wasn't restricted the day before I installed iOS4.

anyway, all working now.

IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!! I can now locate myself and use my apps again....well chuffed!!

Have you updated Doodle Jump since loading the new OS? The developers have now realised an updated version to run on iOS 4.
