Far too expensive for me for purely UK sales, my business relies on overseas sales and for a penny or two more on ebay I can sell worldwide.
Also the fact they phone you has probably put about 90% of this board off even registering for a start.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I would normally agree, but I think I was contacted specifically because of this thread, and I had an opportunity to give them some feedback and be corrected on the time they'd been going. Fair dues - they've only just got going, it's not like they really have been going a year.If they have time to see a post on a message board then phone that person up. It doesn't sound like they're exactly busy does it?
I must admit unsolicited phonecalls like Soolin put me off. Not only does it sound like desperation I just find it rather intrusive.
I am happy to buy anywhere, I'm not prejudiced against one particular site, it's only because I also sell on eBay that I discuss them a lot.
I'm not going to shill them, I will only sell there if they get substantially more traffic, but I felt I had to correct myself because they took the trouble to google me.
I do agree 100% that they hopefully will get to the stage where they're not so desperate they have to call people, but as a start-up, they are worth looking at.
I don't retract anything I said in my post about their T&Cs though."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

bumping this thread because I've just seen they've also been email harvesting & spamming ebay sellers directly

Goodness, they even admit the spamming is being done as they appear to consider it legitimate business practice
So glad I didn't go anywhere near them.
EDIT: If you read several pages it also seems that they are harvesting email addresses direct from ebay wherever someone has it available on their listing. They are then masquerading as a disgruntled former ebay seller who has just found castoff and is moving all their stock there and suggesting that the person spammed does the same. And, they believe that is legitimate business practice and not spam as well. That does annoy me.
As a buyer I don't discriminate - I probably buy more from Amazon than from eBay but because I know eBay as a seller that's why I concentrate on them - but that thread had to be seen to be believed.
In fairness CR seemed to be a well-established poster rather than merely a spammer, but he seemed to be tainted by association. Given that the thread is six months old, perhaps he was newly registered at the time and has gone on to better things there.
To be blunt, I don't like the way small sites always have to backbite at eBay. They would do better if they cut out all the hostility and made it on their own dime. Minestrone talks about exploiting some of the anti-eBay sentiment but that's never a good idea for building a positive business, and anti-eBay sentiment seems to be froth on the top of a viable selling platform, unlike some of these sites."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
