I really like castoff :) the lads that run it are lovely I had a really nice phonecall from them a few weeks ago. Ive won 2 competitions from them since they launched. they're based in Grimsby. There is some nice bits on there and yes there is niggles with hte site but they are correcting things very quickly from the things a few of us pointed out on the launch day. Must say I didnt think much of the Jingle was funny untill the logo flashed up with the shilouette of girls sitting on it... But Boys eh!

Yes its amazing how you like to say how good they are :rotfl:
I've just concluded double digit sales on castoff now selling on my old stuff for very little money. I'm happy to show my support for these guys. I actually got a "do you want any help?" call off them yesterday. Amazing!

Haven't tried them yet, but their emails are starting to get annoying what with all the 'we do this just like ebay/better than ebay/unlike ebay/we're not ebay'ness - just shut up about ebay already. Oh and ebay might not have video but priceminster does, so it's/your not the first selling site to let you add videos.

Not trying to advertise this, just curious. Signed up, it's been going for a year but there are very few items listed.

    EDIT: Thanks for merging this.

SuperGirl might get personal phonecalls because she's the only one selling there (....runs).

You have to wade through a lot of mission-statement junk to get to the real deal, and I agree with Bob, not very easy to see fee structures, and expensive enough to think that perhaps if they did get a bit more traffic, they'd generate decent revenue enough to be a contender, but they don't have a hold on the community and it seems a bit empty from the layout of the pages. They seem to concentrate on Facebook stuff more than their actual site, which is troubling.

I'm a buyer on a number of sites but it seems terribly dead for something that's been going for a year or so.

I hope they get started, competition might be a good thing for eBay, but they seem fixated on eBay, and I feel like a criminal as a buyer as the site is full of admonishments about how buyers will claim INR if you don't send things tracked - rubbish, as a seller on eBay I've never sent recorded unless it was something of particular value and only ever had one INR. I don't like that kind of approach as a buyer at all, and as a seller I'm not sure I want my buyers to be assumed to be crooks before they even start. The advice is good, but could have been presented differently.

One thing, actually, that is useful is a UK-specific guide to business selling in plain language, and that all purchases seem to be covered by the DSRs as a matter of course. eBay are too thinly spread across multiple locations - with support offices in Ireland, registered in Europe in Luxembourg, etc. etc. - to be able to hone in on their large UK market and therefore blur their help pages to (presumably unintentionally) obscure what sellers HAVE to legally offer.

Sorry to bump this thread and double-post, but I got a phone-call from someone at CastOff who saw my post and they have only been going since June this year - I got the impression they'd been going for a year from their Facebook page, whereas that was when they started looking for interest.

That's enough to put me off then. I don't like the idea of people phoning me up when I register with them, it sounds all a bit desperate to me.

If they have time to see a post on a message board then phone that person up. It doesn't sound like they're exactly busy does it?

I must admit unsolicited phonecalls like Soolin put me off. Not only does it sound like desperation I just find it rather intrusive.
