Over-60s bus pass
I have just applied for this, and was directed to a National Express Office and was told it would take five weeks
.
My next door neighbour said she applied for hers (a few years ago) at the Post Ofice and got it instantly!
Nowhere on the form I filled in did it say you could use a Post Office.
Is this facility still available? If so I am pretty miffed and will complain about it not being mentioned.
Thanks.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

I just checked for my local area (Merseyside), and on the leaflet I downloaded, it said you could apply for the pass up to 3 months before your 60th birthday, and the pass would be sent to you in time for your 60th. You can apply at Merseytravel centres and ticket units, and post offices.
The pass isn't instantly available, though - I suspect that this is down to the fact that the pass itself is now like a photo driving licence and has to be made the same way, rather than someone affixing your photo to a small piece of card and date-stamping it.0 -
Thanks for your reply, I have now found the answer, which is that from April 2008 the pass is issued by post from Centro via various local bus stations (of which the National Express Office I was sent to is an agent as we do not have a bus station at the moment).
I couldn't apply for it before as I have been in Spain since I was 60 at the end of January until recently.
Thanks once again.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

We applied for our first bus passes at our local council offices last week. There was no form to fill in (just had to prove your age and where you lived). They took your photo and our Bus Passes arrived through the post 4 days later. Excellent service.
This is a service offered by South Holland District Council (Lincs)

Our Council (Wolverhampton) must be one of the slow ones then!
Thanks for the replies.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

If your neighbour was renewing, that might have been possible at the PO, just not getting the first card.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Here is Cumbria we go to the council office where they take your photo at the same time (so tidy your hair before you sit down!) and the complete card arrives in the post from Preston in a few days.0

Seems to vary in parts of the country from reading this thread. In East Hants it is the local council that do it, but we have to supply passport type photo to them
PS, may all be irrelavent from Tuesday's budget anywayEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

May well be. The free swimming for over-60s has been stopped from the end of July. My husband is devastated!(AKA HRH_MUngo)
