Travel to Heathrow Airport. *Help!*

Hello, so this is my first post :j

I am from Devon and going to fly from Heathrow to Hong Kong on 26 June. I looked up on Coaches and Trains price on the internet, and found that Coaches are easy and cheap however we have no coach station in our little town, so I decided to go there by train.

In my past experience I remember I can use Oyster to go to Heathrow by underground, and go to Heathrow via London is much cheaper than go to Heathrow directly as well. However, when I looked up on TFL about transport from Waterloo to Heathrow it showed up like this

'HEATHROW EXPRESS and CONNECT: Travelcards, Oyster cards and Freedom Passes are not accepted for travel between Paddington and Heathrow Terminals 123, nor on HEATHROW CONNECT between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow Terminals 123. Journeys between Terminals 1, 2 and 3, and Terminals 4 and 5 only, are free of charge. Reported: 17/06/09 17:17 Last Updated: 14/01/10 12:39'

So is this mean I cannot go to Heathrow by underground with Oyster now but only with Heathrow Express from Paddington?

And anyone know any other cheaper way to get to Heathrow from my town 'Axminster' ? I am traveling on 26 June and need to be in Heathrow by 16:15

Thank you for reading! :A

Heathrow Express is an overground service (normal train) which doesn't accept Oyster cards, you have to purchase a ticket to travel on this service. Last time I used it the price was about £10. (Jut checked and it's now £16.50) What you'll need to do to go via the underground is jump on a tube from Waterloo (Jubilee, Northern etc) and change onto the Piccadilly Line which will take you to Heathrow. Be prepared to be cramped on the tubes with your suitcases and allow plenty of time.

    Thanks Debsy42
Yea and I think its will be cheaper to travel with tube from Waterloo to Heathrow?
What I am not sure is whether there's still tube service between Waterloo to Heathrow since TFL showed that, or did TFL just mean I couldn't use Oyster on Heathrow Express but I can still ride by tube to Heathrow with my Oyster?

    Thanks again!

I've double checked in case I was missing something but I can't see a tube that goes directly from Waterloo to Heathrow. I'm sure TFL are just reminding people you can't use Oyster on the Heathrow Express/Connect service, it's only valid on Buses/Tubes and selected Overground. Hope you have a great holiday :)

    Thanks again for your help.
No direct train so I should travel from Waterloo to Heathrow with few changes for Northern line to Circle/District Line then Piccadilly Line if this is right? Do you have any advice on which station have elevator so will be easier to travel with luggages? Sorry for bringing up so many questions, I only have very little knowledge with London Trasports. Thanks again :)
  • Take the jubilee line from waterloo to green park den switch to the picadilly line to get to heathrow. It's a bit of a distance when switching lines but there's a lift from the platform to the connecting passageway, so it should be alright as long as you leave enough time :)
  • Unless you are travelling with twice your own body weight in luggage, then changing anywhere on the Tube is hardly a life-threatening event.

You can get an overground train to Feltham station and then a bus from Feltham to Heathrow

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the trains from Axminster come through Woking don't they?
Would it be more sensible to switch to the RailAir link bus there and save yourself going into London and back out again?
The bus runs every 30mins, drops at all terminals and is very reliable.
Would certainly save you at least an hour time wise.

I looked at the TFL site and the reason the Jubilee / Piccadilly line hasn't come up as an option is that the Jubilee line is closed for engineering works (on 26 June) between Waterloo and Stanmore (so you can't get to Green Park as it falls between the two).

Best idea would be to do as JCP suggests and avoid going into central London in the first place if you can get off the train earlier and get a bus. Will be a lot easier and quicker.

But if you want to come into central London, TFL's advanced engineering warning says that rail replacement buses are operating, so you may want to give TFL a quick call to confirm that you can get a rail replacement bus from Waterloo to Green Park on 26 June - the rail replacement buses will only stop at Westminster en route instead of lots of local stops (as "normal" buses will). There should be a lift at Green Park to get you down into the station and then most - if not all - of the way down to the Piccadilly line (stations that interchange with the Jubilee line tend to have lifts, other stations vary).
