How about this for pasties? http://www.cookitsimply.com/recipe-0010-014184r.html

I know it uses too many eggs: I'd leave out the hard-boiled ones in the filling and use some of your beans instead.

Obviously no use for the veggie child, but there'll be veggie pasty recipes out there.

I tend to wing it with pasties and not bother with recipes much: if it can't run away it winds up covered in pastry!

well i have orange muffin's in the oven as we speak, I used this recipe

    http://www.recipezaar.com/recipe/Nigella-Lawson-Orange-Breakfast-Muffins-303149

Sorta .. no orange zest i also had no milk so added, a bit of water and some natural yogurt, i also added raisins for some veg count... dunno if they will turn out but they seem very happy and rising nicely in the oven. It made 17 because i havent got muffin sized cake tins only standard fairy cake ones .. but hey fingers crossed.

We are going through the same this month, we will get through this!

Just a thought - do you have any tesco clubcard vouchers which you could use to buy bread etc.

Or any forgein currency notes which you could change back to english - I have just found 18 dollars and 10 euros which i am going to change back today. That will do me for the rest of the month

Only 10 days left - we can do this!

When I was little money was always very tight, my Mum and Dad had four kids and only my Dad worked and he didn't get a great wage. However I never noticed not having enough food. In fact I used to think we were better off than most people because we got to have scones for breakfast, homemade cakes, yorkshire puddings on Sundays with whatever meal we had. It was fantastic. Obviously looking back I realise they are things which are cheap to make and filling, whilst also being a treat.

    Scones
    8oz self raising flour
    pinch salt
    2oz margarine
    1oz sugar
    3oz dried fruit
1 medium egg beaten with milk to make 1/4 pint (you can always use water and a spoon of youghurt to make it up)

Heat oven to 200c and grease or line a baking tray.

Mix flour and salt and then rub in margarine. Stir in the sugar and fruit. Add the egg mixture, saving a little to brush the tops. Knead lightly. Divide into 8 pieces and place on greased baking tray brushing the tops with the leftover egg mix. Bake for around 10 minutes until golden.

(Most people roll out their scone dough and use a cutter, but I have useless benches, no matter how much flour you put down you can not get the dough up after cutting).

    Ok pasties:

Make up pastry: rub together (or use food processor) 1/2 as much hard fat (butter or stock, or lard for non-veggies) as plain flour. I usually use 200g flour to 100g fat, but you could alter that depending what you have in. Gradually mix in COLD water to make a dough. Wrap in plastic and chill in the frodge for half an hour.

*edit: just realised you have frozen pastry, which makes things easier :)

Slice up a small amount of potato and carrot. I'm talking half a carrot and 1/2 potato. Peas or cooked onion would be good too. Slice everything REALLY THIN. This means it cooks in the oven. Cook some meat or veggie mince. I'm veggie so a handfull of veggie mince, and add seasonings - i usually just use a bit of gravy powder etc to give it flavour. Add a BIT of water. You just want it moist, not wet.

Roll out your pastry. Use a small plate to cut circles out (for big pasties, or you could do mini ones using something smaller). Put a spoon of the meat, a bit of potato, bit of carrot etc on half the pastry round. Brush beaten egg round the edge. Fold it over and use the end of a spoon to gently press all the way round to seal. Poke a couple of small holes to let the steam out. Brush over with egg mixed with a bit of water. Bake til golden.

Yummy, great for lunchboxes, and easy to make veggie :) Make it up while you're doing something else with mince/potatoes that way you can just use a bit and it won't be missed.

Any leftover pastry you could make jam tarts :)

Oh wow brill, scones would be great for breakfast or just filling up lunchboxes etc.. and thanks for the pastie recipe i will try that for sure.

Ok so i went onto the post office website and worked out that $24 is about £14, hunting around the house i've also found £4.49 giving me a total of £18.49 Which should be plenty i would imagine.

I'm going to buy 6pt of milk, loaf of bread, some cheap breadrolls and some ham/cheese for butty's and a bag of potato's,rice and pasta. then maybe some apples or other cheap fruit for the kids lunch box's.

I think with all that i should be sorted? anything else you can think of i've missed?

Breakfast pancakes recipe that doesn't require any milk or eggs; the amount of raisins can be reduced, or substitute whatever you have in; garam masala can be replaced by whatever spices you have in; they can also be eaten cold.
