Is there enough flour for pastry? 'Cornish' pasties for the kid's lunches? bean and veg for the veggie, diced lamb and veg for t'other?

I know someone's asked, but do you have a jar of coppers? I know those Coinstar machines are absolute robbers, but it might help.

Scrambled eggs are a yummy breakfast, as are pancakes - you can use water instead of milk - do u have butter? If so make flapjacks too! You can make a basic type of bread with normal flour - if you can't find a the recipe on google I will dig through my recipe books for you. Where do you do your shopping usually? If it is in a local cornershop they are generally very sweet about giving a few items such as bread or milk on credit until the end of the month. Or are you on a milk round area? You can get butter, yogurt, bread, milk and eggs delivered and they won't bill you until the end of the month.

If you have bicarb and vinegar you can make soda bread without yoghurt or buttermilk, i made some today. Or get yeast free at supermarkets.
  • I would use the money to buy as much bread as you can hopefully if it is reduced that way can do chicken, tuna etc to fill the kids sandwich boxes. The odd boiled egg, use puff pasty for sweet things ie any tinned fruit or jam even can make snack thing for kids. If you have sugar and butter you could also make flapjacks.

Can you invite your self for lunch anywhere!

I have about 1/2 tub of stork baking marge, and about 1/4 tub of olive spread.

Honestly im really not good at the baking thing, i can just about manage flapjacks, or a really basic cake all my bread has always been a disaster.
  • Are you feeling any clamer? Maybe if you did list of meals for each day you would feel abit better. Hard for us to judge how much food you have and how much your family eats for one meal.

You can make wraps with plain flour, a dash of oil and enough water to make a workable dough. Pinch off and make balls about the size of a golf ball, then roll out thinly. Place in a dry frying pan and cook for a few minutes on each side.

With the money you have, I'd buy some dry milk powder. Once it's made up and refridgerated, it's fine for use on cereal.

there are those here much better at this than I would be, but I do know that when streeetching food, potatoes cooked as oven chips go further than those baked or mashed.

Once your initial panic subsides - as I know it will as the helpful advice flows in - are there any other financial avenues you haven't thought of - friends, family - if not for a bit of cash at least for a meal or a couple of pints of milk. Perhaps tax credits/child benefit etc. might be due before the end of the month to give you a breathing space? Sometimes the back of the drawer/trouser pockets/behind sofa/coat pockets/rarely used handbags can pay dividends.

Can you work out when you will next have cash so you know how many days you're actually dealing with? And in what area do you live?

    Hi
Do you have any dried milk powder? If so just add to flour and egg to get pancakes or baking.
Can make up with water and use in place of fresh for cereal or porridge (I have done and doesn't taste too bad, just make up and chill for a while to get a better texture).

Pastry is easy - if you have a food processor, just blitz cold butter with the flour and then add cold water with pulse action until just combined. Tip out and very lightly knead it together. Leave in fridge to rest for half an hour before using.

I have posted a muesli slice recipe in the past - don't need milk for that and it is fab for breakfast or in packed lunch or after school snack.

can add/omit some items if you don't have them or don't like them and add more oats instead to make it more flapjacky.

Muffins can be made using oil instead of butter or marge and I saw a breakfast bacon and egg muffin recipe recently which sounded fun!

Toad in the hole with yorkshire pudding batter
For veggies can put in veggie sausages or do yorkies and add a veggie filling
Baked potatoes. cheese and potato pie (my fave!) put a layer of baked beans in middle
